Blurb: Welcome to your nightmare!
Late-night king of the airwaves encounters a disturbed and lonely listener with deranged thoughts on her mind ...
Upper crust cricketers hit a sticky wicket when caught up In the ancient rites of a remote and hostile country village ...
After giving a lift to a roadside hitch-hiker, an insurance broker discovers that his mystery passenger is a portent of disaster ...
A couple’s new cottage is haunted by unseen presences — which only one of the pair can hear...
An all-new selection of macabre and creepy tales, and just for you music lovers we've named every single story after a song. It's a mixtape from a mausoleum, in a place where the letters 'D. J.' stand for 'Deadly Jeopardy' and where '18 with a bullet' sends you down into the ground rather than up to the top ten. Press play, pump up the volume, and pray that you make it as far as the B-sides .... Like the look of that cricket themed story. Commentary to kick off over next few days. Should anyone wish to share their thoughts on this, or previous books in series, please don't hesitate to do so! Order here: 5th BHF of Horror. I'm not sure it is available from other outlets?

When you get to the cricket-themed one, please imagine the very last word of the story is italicised. Unfortunately the italics in that story were lost somewhere in production, and that one was quite important

I'm so sorry to hear that happened, Sam. I know nothing at all about cricket and have had the experience several times now of reading lengthy, detailed descriptions of cricket matches in various novels by Simon Raven. Had absolutely no idea what the hell is happening (all I can recall at the moment is "a square cut off the" something or other being mentioned a lot) but would read all of it anyhow because I find Raven's prose so seductive. He was not the sort of person one would wish to ride in an elevator with.
Best,
Hel

I'm guessing piece in question is the one shares a Kinks title? Shouldn't be too long til I get to it.

The June 2021 Fit Cricketers Symposium (special guest speakers; helruner, princesstuvstarr) has relocated to the Simon Raven - Remember Your Grammar thread. Meanwhile, here are a bunch of "with it" beatniks raving about bloody "pop music." Fritz Maitland - Stand And Deliver: Vile verse. Narrator risks gangrene to confront the ghastliest of the De'ils highwaymen! Inspired by fluke smash hit by the poor man's Martian Dance. Ian Taylor – 11:59: "Write it all down, in years to come you'll look back and remember all the good times. Who knows what magic might happen?" Debra urges Steve to keep a diary for the coming year, as will she. The incentive being that in twelve months time, they get to read each others - and Debra leads a busy sex life. Steve accepts the challenge and finds himself obsessing over those good times sooner than expected, when, six months into a match made in Heaven, his beloved Julie is run down and killed on Christmas Eve. Focusing on the diary entries, Steve finds he can literally re-live every minute spent with Julie since the night they met in Tropics nightclub, maybe even set things right so she cheats death. Sam Dawson – I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe): "A well known footballer has offered me £50,000 for it" Robert Henshawe, 41, ruthless antique dealer, fleecer of the bereaved, all round bad egg is mystified. Why would Max Alterman, his arch rival, a man who had good cause to wish him dead, come on all magnanimous in death and gift him the enormous, impossibly rare Men's Patent Dressing Room he so craved? There has to be a catch. Samantha Jayne Crosby – Angie Baby: It is 1974, and, her parents away visiting Grandma, troubled thirty-three year old Angela from Watford, plucks up the courage to phone her heart-throb, Davey Slick, charismatic host of the short-straw 4-7 a.m. shift on local radio. What a wonderful start. It's getting to the point where I want to dislike a few just so you know I don't go "Enjoyed this, loved that" about everything ever. Soundtrack's shaping up pretty eclectic, too.

Does anybody know if Vols. 3-5 will be issued as ebooks? I'd get them like a shot.

Glad you liked '11:59'. Atypical for a horror collection, I'm sure, but I liked the idea of going of on a tangent. Reproducing the pubs of my youth was a bittersweet experience.
