Craig's contribution to the calendar is always welcome, and I thought this one was well up to his usual standard. It illustrates succinctly the old saying "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Great artwork from Chrissie.

Just catching up with these - the usual high standard, and some great illustrations as always. Compliments of the season all!

Day Twenty-threeReggie Oliver We welcome back the phenomenally talented author, illustrator and actor Reggie Oliver, with a revised version of a story first published in Paul Finch's Terror Tales of the Seaside (Grey Friar, 2013). Reggie, another Black Book regular, who - along with Tom Johnston and David Riley - read the tributes from our small community at Charlie's funeral, recently told us: "I have very happy memories of Charles and remain astonished at what he achieved in the face of so many difficulties." We hope you enjoy your visit to Mrs. Warlock's Belleview boarding house ....

Reggie Oliver's stories are always satisfyingly creepy (as is that excellent illustration) I'll take pleasure in re-reading Holiday From Hell.

Very creepy little tale from the always reliable Reggie. I thought he captured well the atmosphere of many faded seaside towns whose best days are long behind them. Many thanks.

Day Twenty-four Last Bus to Mortbury Shrinkproof "This is a statue of a 17th century Dutchman, as seen in a blizzard in Hoorn, the Netherlands, in January 2019. The snow was settling on his teeth…" The idea was to run something nice and 'Christmassy,' but then I came to my senses and here's a previously unpublished horror by Charles Black, one of at least three considered for the Black Ceremonies collection (Parallel Universe, 2015) which didn't make the final cut. Caution: not overly festive. And so ends the Vault Advent Calendar for 2019. Or does it ?Attachments:Charles Black - DICK.pdf (108.28 KB)

A fitting end for this year's dedication to the memory of Charles Black. Well done.
I want to thank Dem and the talented Chrissie and all the evil elfs working in the background for this outstanding Advent Calendar! Time just flew by.
P.S.: Also a great photo again. I don't know what is more scary, the statue or that there really still was a thing like snow in 2019.

How appropriate to finish with a story from Charles. If this one didn't make the cut, then it just shows how talented he was. Dem was spot on; not much to warm the cockles, but at least he got it in the end. Thanks to Shrinkproof for the eerie pic--he definitely has an eye for spotting odd and creepy things to snap.
I have really enjoyed this year's calendar. Thank you to the authors for letting us share their stories, to Chrissie and Shrinkproof for the wonderful artwork and pics, and to Dem for putting it all together so well. I am sure that a heck of a lot of work is involved, and it is very much appreciated. A happy and peaceful Christmas to everyone on the forum.

Many thanks Kevin for doing all the hard work to bring this year's to us.

Although I haven't read the story yet, I'm sure it won't disappoint in any way. Thanks from me too to all the authors, to Chrissie for great artwork and of course Dem for putting it altogether. I wish everyone at the Vault a relaxing stress-free Christmas!

David A. Sutton Ritual Object English Countryside We're not quite done yet. Vault are not exactly renowned for promoting, poetry, haiku, acrostics & stuff - Vault are not exactly renowned full stop - but we received this from yet another of the Mortbury set, David A. Sutton, author, publisher, editor, and small press historian (to whom Charlie dedicates The Seventh Black Book), and could not resist.

The idea was to run something nice and 'Christmassy,' but then I came to my senses Thank heavens. You wouldn't be forgiven if you ever did such a horrible thing. Never, ever, entertain such thoughts. Wish you a most creepy Christmas.
