Hi, I hope it's ok to share details of the following, I promise not to say a further unless asked, and will entirely understand if it is removed if deemed inappropriate.. However, lovers of the recent spate of BHF Horror books may well find something to enjoy in mine, Andy and Selene's upcoming book, proofed by Darrell Buxton.
The 'Spoken in Whispers' anthology of short horror fiction by Ian Taylor and Andrew Llewellyn (both BHF Books of Horror alumni) is currently in development and going absolutely swimmingly. Please join our page if you find a collection of 13 perfectly horrible tales to chill the blood and disturb the mind a worthwhile proposition. Each story wonderfully illustrated by Selene Paxton-Brooks.
It will be available to purchase next month via Lulu (the publishing site, not the diminutive Scottish singer, with a few signed copies available to buy at 50 Years of British Horror Films in Great Yarmouth on 23rd July and the Festival of Fantastic Films in Manchester over Halloween weekend.
Here's what established and upcoming shining stars in horror writing and art, both fact and fiction, have to say about our terrifying tome:
“Two fresh voices, in unison, that echo with eeriness, drum the dread beat, and dare to explore the hinterlands of horror.”
Tony Earnshaw, writer 'Beating the Devil, the Making of Night of the Demon
"I can honestly say these guys know their craft and have carved out some genuinely unsettling tales with prose that positively insinuates itself upon the imagination."
Simon J Ballard, writer/illustrator BHF Books, We Belong Dead)
"In the classic tradition of The Pan Books of Horror, Spoken in Whispers is a frightfully good collection of gruesome terror tales in a modern setting, pleasingly seasoned with healthy doses of very British humour, thankfully not of the politically correct kind. Ian Taylor and Andrew Lewellyn are obviously huge genre fans and like-minded readers will have fun spotting the many references to screen fear favourites. A word of praise also to Selene Paxton-Brooks for her wonderful old school illustrations."
Allan Bryce, editor 'The Dark Side', Infinity

The drawings are absolutely marvelous, too! I'd post some but my attempts to master the secret decoder ring necessary to post images here have met with complete failure.
Wishing you all the best with the launch, Ian! One of the reasons why I, at least, visit this space is to read up on the latest projects and publications from Vault inmates--erm, I mean, residents. LOL!
cheers, Hel

Thank you! I too would have liked to post some images, but it's beyond the likes of me, being a technological dunderhead of the highest order.

Good idea. Are there any plans to extend this to the BHF Horrors? It would make them easier to get hold of for those who - for whatever reason - have difficulty ordering direct from lulu. At least with Am*z*n you can pick up a voucher at certain supermarkets & retail outlets.

Exactly, this, Dem! Yes, we are taking steps to place at least volumes 3 to 7 of BHF on Amazon (these are the ones so far collated by Darrell Buxton). Further cash raised will again go to the agreed and advertised charities at the time. Lulu has its advantages and disadvantages, likewise this alternative, but between them we can ensure that the books are accessible to most people, if not all.

First (?) of the BHF Book of Horror Stories spin-offs, starts like it means bloody business. Andrew Llewellyn - The Woman in Room Number 3: Alan Doyle, 48, overweight, long-term unemployed, takes night work at Maenor Gwyrdd, a nursing home for the elderly, to show his hateful mother that he is not "useless" after all. His colleagues, Nurse Griffin, and Sarah, a comely Goth, are kindness itself, but, alas, his employment reunites Alan with two dreadful figures from his nightmare childhood. Mary 'Cuckoo; Pennoyer may be in her dotage, but she remains a powerful servant of Affroddu, a huge grey woodland demon with an insatiable appetite for human meat ... Ian Taylor – Breaking the Law of Averages: Some fathers go to insane lengths to protect their best little girl in the world from harm. Dan Beacham is such a man where his darling Lottie is concerned. For her part, Lottie shares his common-sense regard for the law of averages .... Andrew Llewellyn - Hamburger Lady: (Darrell Buxton [ed], Fifth BHF Book of Horror Stories, 2021). When Michael Johnson, murderer and rapist, is inexplicably granted parole, his first port of call is Vicky's Lunch Van in Montgomery ("Alabama's best burgers") to finally meet his blonde, busty, besotted pen-pal, Charlotte, to thank her — as it were — for supporting him through the long, lonely years. A message from his admirer. Car's broken down - could he meet her a couple of miles away in Oakwood Cemetery? Ian Taylor - Treats: With her husband of 45 gone to his maker, Mavis must now face the future alone, save for Brodrick, Arthur's's beloved hound. They get along fine until Broderick's doggie treats run out and the widow's agoraphobia prevents her replenishing the supply.

Thanks for the interest, Dem. Andrew and I intend to collaborate on more of our own collections together whilst, as the new editors, continuing to release further BHF collections. And who knows, maybe we can publish collections by others from the BHF fold? Andrew and I are meeting over the Halloween weekend (appropriately) and have much to discuss on the subject. We'll keep you up to date.
