Some of the pics / graphics seem to have gone... or is it just me?

Some of the pics / graphics seem to have gone... or is it just me? Not just you. Seems to be Dem's Image Cave account. That'll cheer him up. Later: Oh. his ripway.com profile's messed up, too. OK. Run.

its back to normal (normal?) again. Yes, "normal" probably isn't the word that most people would use to describe this board!

Apologies for resurrecting a nine-year-old thread, but it seems the most applicable to what I'm seeing of the board right now. Is anyone else seeing endless announcements to "please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting"?? Are 'photobucket' pulling a fast one here??

Well, if that's the case - that means how many thousands of images wiped out from this board? Look at the 'Latest Finds' thread - this is a fucking tragedy. And from that Ghacks article: All members of a site who used Photobucket in the past would have to sign up for the -- rather expensive I might say -- Plus 500 plan to restore the old functionality. This is not practicable at all, and it won't happen.
Which means we couldn't even do a whip-round to help Dem get the images back. EDIT - It appears that a lot of James Doig's images have survived.

Great. All my scans are gone. I used one of those Photobucket free accounts for material I posted exclusively here. Can't fault them for pulling the plug on free services, it is their right. But how they did this is an outrage, holding the work of years for ransom. Pay up or piss off. We truly live in the age of the shameless bully.

This is ridiculous. Luckily, all my scans were previously saved to my blog, so they've survived this outrage, but I'm gutted that so much fantastic stuff has been obliterated by photobucket.
I would definitely be prepared to help restore all this invaluable material in any way possible, including cash. This is my favourite website and I hate to see it being vandalised like this.

It does sound like photobucket has pulled the plug - this is from their Terms of Use page, revised on 28 June: Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time.
Theyre on a hiding to nothong if all this is true - remember when the owners of the GIF image format tried to charge people for using it, it died overnight.
Im not sure why my images are still showing - maybe the pay-up-now extortion email is waiting for me...

So it's not just me...... I noticed the change late last night but at first thought that it was just my computer playing silly buggers. Sadly, that's not the problem.
Bastards!
