Golly, James--all those gorgeous scans you did of all those lovely old books? *weeps* H. I've got the scans on my computer, but know what goes where would be hard to work out.

Could only spend a few hours tinkering yesterday morning but at least the interface looks a little more presentable - it is only when you turn to the original posts you get to see the damage losing (conservative estimate) seven-eight thousand illo's in one hit will do to a forum that prides itself on visuals.
My Internet connection went down on Sunday 25th June until the middle of last week when a replacement router arrived. But for a couple of short sessions at library, I'd not been on-line for best part of ten days, so .... imagine my joy on first encounter with our new look.
It remains to be seen whether ph*t*b**k*t restore free third party hosting, albeit for a limited period - received a slighter ominous e-mail from them yesterday when I tried to download all the files I've hosted from my account so could be they are still holding everyone in the world's work to ransom (and sympathy to all affected). At least with 18 months warning we know where we stand and can plan accordingly.
Thank you all for your patience and continued support.
* still ..... "a bit fragile." *

That's good to hear, James. Last night before I passed out... er, went to bed, I noticed that at least some of Cro Magnon Man's scans were still displaying. Let's hope that means his are all intact. He had some really good stuff.
cheers, H.

Good to have you back, dem!
Hope the router does his thing. Idiotic that this whole technology is dependent on one device. Two weeks for a replacement?

I checked.I can get back on the forum to 2011. Somehow those scans - or a few - I did back then seem to be still working, but I don't know if they can be seen by others. I really can't remember if I posted them all through Ph*t*b*t or not. Which other hosting services do you use?

I'll load the Australian stuff again, but I've always liked the Latest Finds thread and sorting that out would be impossible.

I can repost the scans I did - still have them on the computer, but maybe it would have to be a 'throw the kitchen sink in' kinda post...

It was diagnosing that old router was to blame took a week. Now I've sobered up, I realise there's been no "backtracking" on Ph*t*bucket's part. As Sev correctly identifies, it's only the Plus account subscribers have the reprieve - my account was a freebie. That will be another decade's worth of effort down the drain then. Over on Wordpress, Vault excuse for a 'site' likewise hideously disfigured. Night all.

F*c*itupB*c*k*t was always too bloody slow to load anything for my liking. If there is anything of mine that is missing I'm happy to repost it for you.

Finally got the dreaded email from Photo*uckit last night letting me know that the 223 images I've got stored there - all of 0.5% of the formerly free capacity - will now no longer to be used for 3rd party hosting to this forum. That's makes a right mess of the Peter Saxon bibliography thread and "Down the Back of the Vault." So much for my contribution of fine culture to this place!! Oh well, now on the lookout for a suitable replacement, as I've deleted the account.
edit: I've had an account at ipernity - a French hosting site - ever since leaving flickr in disgust a few years back, and I've just figured out that I can post those images here (though there has to be a mass of links back to the original page). That'll give me something to do this morning!

You have my sympathies Sev. I've just had the visit from the heavies from F*c*itupB*c*et myself. They came in, made their demand for money with menaces and rubbed out a few cave paintings as a statement of intent. Real Neanderthal behaviour. Protection rackets like this are a new one on us here in the Stone Age where we have b*gger all worth protecting anyway.
Fortunately I had the lost images backed up on another wall and I've begun reposting them through Postimage. But if I've overlooked any then I'd be only too happy to hear about it.
