If they'd only asked nicely I might've considered paying. Their combination of digital vandalism and thinly-veiled extortion means that if they think that they're going to get a brass farthing out of me they can just bloody whistle for it (you'd never guess I'd just moved from Yorkshire to Scotland, would you...?).
The only time I've ever wanted to kick the bucket.

Where's Kev? Anyone know? Has he gone into a decline over all this? I wouldn't blame him at all if he's lying in a darkened room somewhere with a bag of frozen peas on his head.

Interestingly, some things hosted on photobucket are still visible.

This really is an ugly assault. It is "rape". I assume photobucket own this website, or are a subdivision of the (((higher players))), to be able to fill every individual post with these damaging graphics and remove previous posted material.
The Internet is a very fragile structure, and we are at its mercy. So far we are able to use it to spread information and enlighten each other. But it may collapse on us any time. The (((owners))) are not interested in our best, but only seek to use us and herd us into being good consumers slaves. (((They))), the globalists, the international bankers, controllers of the money supply, owners of (((media))) and politics, big actors on the Internet, (they are one and the same), only seek to increase their power over us. That is why (((they))) intentionally break down independent self-sufficient nations, and destroy Europe through mass immigration. (((Their))) ultimate goal is complete world control, by sneaking their own global fascist government over us, gradually first, by way of society infringement through EU and trade/relations structures, molding and adapting our minds, and then spreading it. It is an ongoing widely infected process on many levels.
Our only chance against (((them))) is to build free independent structures, and at the same time raising collective awareness of this enemy that is encroaching us.

No - photobucket own the servers on which the missing images are stored. They have broken the links between those images and other websites, and are telling people who use their image hosting facility that they need to pay if they want to have links to those images on other websites.

Somehow they have also been able to insert their own graphics into every post, where there was blank space before. By the way, I have never used photobucket, but they still pester my posts with their message.

I never used phxtxbxxkxt on here either and I get the same gratuitous dump of their stupid advert on every post now. I did have an account ages ago and had toyed with trying to revive it when I started posting--glad I never bovvered now.
Hope Kev is OK. I just find it all a huge nuisance but perhaps we can just live with it for however long it takes.
cheers, H.

A friend just told me he lost all his photobucket account. They wanted to charge him 500 quid a year to keep it up. Seems like photobucket are changing policy and going for client's cash. Let's see how that plays out.

Ditto - in fact I'd never even heard of Photobucket until all thus blew up (I'm not very tech-savvy, for which I don't apologise!).

We all need to rally round and show that we still want the board to continue despite the hassle.

Somehow they have also been able to insert their own graphics into every post, where there was blank space before. Every one of those graphics is replacing an image that is currently stored on their servers - they've just changed the links so that they all go to that graphic. www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-40492668

My suspicions are that Photobucket are in deep, deep trouble, and are basically resorting to blackmail because their original business model was crap. Predictably, this unannounced cyber-vandalism has irritated loads of net users (as well as bringing joy to the hearts of m'learned friends) with the standard response being somewhere between "Can't pay? Won't pay!" and "spin on this..."
Most likely outcome? They'll go bust anyway, but I reckon they've calculated that by doing it this way they can at least screw a few thousand dollars out of the gullible before getting out of Dodge.

I've a feeling all this may lead to vaultofevil mk.3, not that I'm suggesting such a thing, and it doesn't solve the issue of hundreds(thousands?) of missing/ransomed scans either of course, but if the image hosting service has resorted to this kind of thing then I don't see what can be done really. I use imgur myself but given that photobucket has done this then the same thing could happen again with any one of them. I don't know what the answer is really, except maybe to simply start again with another image hosting service and hope for the best. I think the site is a little niche and the membership a little small to successfully crowdfund the money needed each and every year simply to host images/scans; and even if that weren't the case, I doubt anyone here would relish giving the likes of photobucket a single red cent now.
Anyway, I'm sure dem will have been pondering the problem and is likely planning the winning move even as we speak.

I do not think this is that huge of a problem, to be honest. Once the icons have been replaced, the board will look normal again. Some images will have been lost, to be sure.
