Not sure if I'm supposed to post things like this here, so if I'm not, please somebody just smack me on the wrists and tell me off! Anyay, if I am OK to post it, this is for an ezine (which is normally non-paying) which I do a bit of work for (Pantechnicon). They've decided to splash out and compile their first paying anthology, so here are the details copied more or less from the forum at www.pantechnicon.net (I don't think the details are actually on the website proper yet). I hope some of you might be interested in submitting something to them! PANTECHNICON SEEKING SUBMISSIONS FOR FIRST PRINT ANTHOLOGY.
Full Terms and Conditions to be posted later, but here's the gist of it: - Stories must be in the SF/F/H genres, and of a standard that matches or surpasses what we would usually publish in the Magazine. - Stories must be between 5,000 and 15,000 words. - Contributors receive a free copy. - Contributors receive a percentage of the profits from the sale of the anthology. There is no up-front payment other than the contributor's copy. - All sumbissions must be sent electronically to Submissions@pantechnicon.net with "ANTHOLOGY SUBMISSION" in the subject line. - Payment will only be offered via PayPal to non-UK residents. If you are a UK resident, other options may be considered and can be discussed on an ad-hoc basis. - Payment will be once every six months after publication date. - Simultaneous and Multiple Submissions are not accepted. - Closing date for submissions is March 31st 2008. I will take international date lines into account if you are behind GMT, so don't panic if you've left it until 11pm PST to send your mail. I aim to have this published in July 2008. Date to be determined and announced closer to the time.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to say when plugging that anthology - I'm heavily outnumbered over at Pantechnicon. Most of the people there are into fantasy (y-a-w-n!). So it would be great to get some really good horror submissions, to show 'em what they're missing!

Not sure if I'm supposed to post things like this here, so if I'm not, please somebody just smack me on the wrists and tell me off! Bagsy it's me! I downloaded the five pdf's recently and had a scan through some of the articles (I'm not up to reading fiction offscreen at present). There's some top and varied stuff in Pantechnicon and no mistake: for example, issue 1 includes a Trudi Topham interview with Micheal Marshall Smith (Caroline grills Stephen Gallagher in #2), Simon Clark's Confessions Of a Resurrectionist (writing 'sequels' to classic works, as Clark has with The Night Of The Triffids), a feature on Dark Shadows, short fiction from Des, even - of all things - a reprint of Robert Louis Stevenson's Markheim. I notice Sean has a regular (?) column, Classic Science Fiction 101 from the 3rd issue. Here's a direct link to the downloads page but check the rest of the site out while you're there!

I've got a story in one issue as well, the second I think. As for the SF articles, I think that was meant to be a regular thing, but appears to have been dropped - not that anyone bothered to tell me either way!

Caroline grills Stephen Gallagher in #2 I do indeed! I've got an even bigger interview lined up for the next issue (1 March) - can't tell you who it is yet, but I reckon you chaps here will love it. Glad you like the look of Panties (as we affectionately call it), Demonik. It's been a labour of love for the editior, Trudi Topham - particularly since her original co-editor has had to pull out of the venture for a while as he's writing a book, leaving her to nurture it on her own. She's drafted a few of us (myself included) in as helpers. Sean - if I recall, there was a bit of a bust up between you and Troo (as we affectionately call her!) on the forum, and you left - which was a great shame as you were a super person to talk to on the forum (and a fellow horror fan for me to converse with). I don't know if any communication went on between you and Troo then, but I guess she must have assumed you were out of there and wouldn't be continuing with the Classic SF series. I recall her bemoaning the loss - as we all did - so you've certainly been missed. If you feel like it, I bet she'd welcome you back as a contributor with open arms. I could even do some mediating between you and Troo if you wanted (I must admit, she can be a bit scary sometimes, though she's actually a very nice person and very dedicated to her cause). Let me know if you want me to mention your name to her!

Caroline - actually, the second article I did was written and published after that (and to be honest, it wasn't that much of a bust up anyway),not that it matters. Sorry for accidentally swerving this thread off-course...if you like, I'd be more than happy to edit / delete my posts so as to leave the thread as it was before I found it... No problem there.

S Don't worry, Sean - I don't call this "swerving the thread off course". I tend to swerve threads far more off course than that! We're still talking about Pantechnicon after all! I don't know, of course, what happened between you and Troo. So I'll shut up about it now! By the way, Demonik, I forgot to say: Not sure if I'm supposed to post things like this here, so if I'm not, please somebody just smack me on the wrists and tell me off! Bagsy it's me! ... I enjoyed that!

I was just updating the New Writings page, adding the Pantechnicon link, when I noted to my horror how "science fiction" had been abbreviated on the banner. After lecturing Justin to the point of distraction about the do's and don't's of that abbreviation for Paperback Fanatic - in a nutshell, the approved abbreviation is SF, never, never, never, under any circumstances, the derogatory and phonetically incorrect "Sci-Fi". But that's exactly the one that Pantechnicon has used! Shame! New Writings

I understood sc fi was long buried as a term. Maybe its a zombie come to haunt us,

Ha ha I used to get it drummed into me that it was SF not sci-fi. Does it stand for science fiction or science fantasy ( I tend to go with the latter).I think SF is somewhat snobby actually - sci-fi is my retro term of choice.:-)

SF, Science Fiction, Sci-Fi, soppy gurly rubbish ... as long as they give me some kind of warning I'm easy with it. ... I enjoyed that! Don't encourage me, it only makes me worse.

Know what you mean. I kind of like sci fi as a term having a penchant for the absurd and dreadful. We have to work on you Dem You know deep down its right. as regards our preferences for genres I am reminded though of the argument between doctors and vets The vets say - you are not proper doctors, you only treat one species and the doctors say - at last we don't eat our patients Craig

But you've been reading it anyway ! - Frankenstein is sci-fi ( retro flavour and *ace*). KC ... to say nothing of all those 'When Animals Attack' books. You're both right, of course. Much of the 'horror' I read and enjoy is another man's 'SF'/ 'Science Fiction'/ 'Sci-Fi'/ 'soppy gurly rubbish' and many of my favourite authors have written hardcore SF (what were they thinking ....). Same with films like Day Of The Triffids: The Sorcerers: The Deadly Bees, etc. They'll always be horror films to me. We used to have similar arguments about what does, and what does not, constitute 'Gothic' literature.

Wow, I didn't expect my post to cause this kind of discussion! I must say, I haven't really taken a lot of notice of the terms they use (Troo's the boss, not me). My only gripe with them is that when it started out, horror was the first thing mentioned on their list of areas covered, and now it's the last.
SF could stand for speculative fiction, of course, which encompasses all the relevant genres (but never really caught on as a term which people used).
And thanks ever so much Calenture (Rog, is it? I'm afraid I don't know many names yet) for putting a link to Pantechnicon from your site.
