Hiya, Im hermit im in scotland, and I only discovered this place yesterday.
I was mourning for the days when horror fiction was more adventurous and gritty. I remembered enjoying an occasional pan horror anthology book, and preloved books were interesting to search though in book markets. nowadays i see very little preloved book selections in the charity shops near me, and none of them are ever horror books.
this forum seems a good place to lurk and linger.

oh im sure i will....... ive already found myself a dank mossy corner to reside in. ive been considering starting to re-collect some old horror novels. I used to have almost complete collection of some authors, but sadly i got rid of them all when i moved to make it easier to transfer my worldly belongings in my then tiny ford fiesta. it was a hard thing to do, but i regretted it ever since. also regretted deciding that i dont need "trashy" fiction when someone bought me a boxset of some of the books and i got rid of them. its taken me a couple more decades to realise i still love those stories and want them back.

Welcome hermit.
If you like your horrors trashy, you've come to the right place.
Good luck with finding back the books you wish you'd never let go (there are a lot of us have been there).

i never had a huge library of books as i was still living with my parents so space was limited but my fave authors were james herbert and stephen king, plus a lot of other random books i cant remember. i had most of Kings early books and James herberts books up to the magic cottage. after i moved i stopped reading for a long time. and then when i decided to go after Kings books again, i was shocked at how many more had been added to the lists. but i managed to find a good deal for a box of alot of the bookclub editions so i got them. now im considering going after all the old james herbert books too. only his older fiction, i dislike his more recent books. i loved reading that rats trilogy. it brings back good memories of better days

Hello, they keep me locked in a tower. Some would say for obvious reasons. Beware of Isaac Asimov's hands.
Edited to say I forgot to say how are you which is what I originally meant to say.
How are you?

oh right now im reading stephen kings firestarter. ive got quite a few books on my shelf that are either never read yet or are copies of books ive read once years ago and intend to re-read again cos i cant remember anything of them. i tend to have a bit of a problem that i keep re-reading my favourites and forgetting these others. i have a few stephen kings that are in my unknown accumilations. im a creature of familiarity, i never used to be. i used ot be very adventuruous with reading all sorts of books. but now..............
anyway my next few unknown books waiting to be read are DF Jones - Xeno, I read this a few times in my early teens and enjoyed it, but now i cant remember anything much of it. Koji Suzuki - Ring - Spiral, I read ring years ago when i first discovered the japanese movie, again cant remember anything of it, and spiral never read, picked it up from a charity shop.
ive also got secrets of crickley hall by james herbert. a preloved purchase, but not sure about this.

I only ever read fiction by authors who are dead, usually by at least 100 years. Which I'm told the great and marvellous authors who frequently post on here, like the naughty Sam Dawson, find a very cheerful thought.

i used to read alot of "trash" about mutated spiders, ants and other grotesque creatures. cant beat a good invasion of killer ants or spiders the size of puppies.
i miss the young adult or teen horror and scifi novels from the 70s and early 80s. they produced some really good creepy or scary stories. the stuff thats produced these days wouldnt even scare a baby

I've never read any Stephen King, or James Herbert. In fact I've hardly read any horror fiction, as you might have noticed. So it is a mystery why I post on here. I know quite a bit about Gothic fiction and that's about it.
