It seems we don't have a thread for this. The deadly island. At first I thought only of Greek islands which are a place to avoid, as far as horror fiction goes. But I fear it is too limited. A close cousin to All at sea , but still its own.
These are all Beware of Greeks type of stories, but surely this is only the tip of Skull Island.

Oh, is it only short stories? No. Everything is valid. These were just present as I read two of them in the last few days.

Dem, thanks for mentioning Bassett Morgan. Couldn't recall her name and I was about to go grab my copy of Not at Night (a Vault classic if ever there was one) off the shelf to bring her back to these tattered shores of memory.
I think she wrote the same story several times over but it doesn't matter because it's ALWAYS quite entertaining.

Can't believe there's not been a collection of BM's stories - they don't all concern inter-species brain transplants, it just seems that way. Island of Doom is probably the best - certainly my favourite - but you really can't go wrong with her stuff. And it brought out the best in Joseph Doolin, too. Joseph Doolin ( Weird Tales, Feb. 1932) Andreas, there must be hundreds of island stories in WT alone.

Thanks a lot Andy for creating this! It's one of those "why Peter Haining didn't have an antho for this" topics!

Lots of great stories in this thread already. I'm particularly keen on Lee's "The Gorgon," Smith's "No Ships Pass," and Hartley's "Podolo."
A few more:
A. Merritt - "The Moon Pool"
W. Fenimore (A. Merritt?) - "The Pool of the Stone God"
William Hope Hodgson - "The Voice in the Night"
William Hope Hodgson - "The Habitants of Middle Islet"
Margaret St. Clair - "The Island of the Hands"

H.T.W. Bousfield - "The Unknown Island" (1935)
A little chiller by an author whose supernatural/fantastic tales I would like to see gathered in a slim but enjoyable volume.
