Just when you thought 2020 couldn't get any worse ...The Advent Calendar quietly bowed out on #10 with last years Charles Black tribute. However, should you fancy contributing to a scaled down, ten-day Vault Christmas supplement, then by all means, please send on a story/ photo/ illustration/ etc. Covid and/ or real life commitments permitting, we'll try scrape something together from Monday 14th through to 24th. Address is; whitechapelgothic ATgmail.com - replacing AT with @ Be warned: the Calendars were always lo-fi affairs (we've little storage space for attachments), the proofing - if any - has been hit and miss, and the commentary largely uninspired. None of this is about to change. Not for the better, anyhow. Your Public Spirited Vault. Meeting the challenge. Always Cheering Everybody up. #ChristmasHope #FestiveFun #BornToMakeYouHappy #Joy&Niceness #HoHoHo #"ByPublicDemand" #CarefulWhatYouWishFor #BollockstoChristmas etc.

Thanks to those who've contributed to date, but we are still way short of material. What we need most is for the more reticent among you to overcome shyness ...

Day oneChrissie Demant No fanfare, no nothing, this is Vault Bedside Companion on Ice. Am very grateful to those of you who've kindly forwarded stories. Still plenty of vacancies. Special thanks to our mysterious friend Drew Salzen for shocking the corpse into life.

Wonderfully nasty. A good twist on the ventriloquist's doll. And the right kind of start for this year's ten-day Vault Christmas supplement.

Very creepy and rather poignant, too.
Congratulations to Drew Salzen!

The illustration is wonderful. At first, I was so focused on the foreground that I didn’t notice the background.

A hell of a good start - both the story and the image are hard acts to follow....

Chrissie Demant Day two of ten eleven Rescued from the archive (think it may even have first seen the light of day on VOE Mk I), a neglected classic by that master of black sorcery, Mr. Franklin Marsh, Vault co-founder and literary agent to the stars. Many thanks to those who answered yesterday's appeal. We've still some blank slots! Attachments:franklin marsh - imp.pdf (105.07 KB)

Many thanks to those who answered yesterday's appeal. We've still some blank slots! Wonderful cover art by Chrissie today (as was yesterday's art and story)! Anything by Mr. Marsh has got to be good so looking forward to today's story.

A fine tale and glad to see it wasn't just me that hated the Hillman Imp. Most of them resembled odious little motorised biscuit tins, but the white ones (as in the story) had a front end that recalled a scowling fridge. Loathsome....

This car looks as if a strong wind could have lifted it from the motorway. I once a long time ago had a similar little car. On crossing a bridge at 100 mph in bad weather the car caught a gust, and the rear end wanted to go the other way as I did. Nothing like a little shot of adrenaline while underway.
Nice story and again a great illustration.
