Middoth and Swampirella: I hope you enjoy the story. I do think it's one of the best in the Jamesian genre. (Imagine what our psychoanalytic critics would have said if MRJ had penned something similar.) The homoerotic undertone and the poignancy of ageing have added much to the story. "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth ..."
Thanks Dem for having it and matching it with Shrinkproof's amazing photo: seems to me a perfect match. (Thanks Shrinkproof!)

Hey there! Long time lurker, but this is my first post and I decided to contribute to the 2019 calender. I translated a story from Eddy C. Bertin from Dutch into English. It's called Gris-Gris and Bertin wrote in in the late 1990's for a juvenile book of horror stories. I just send an e-mail containing the story. I hope it gets posted. Cheers! That's very kind of you, thanks! Hope you continue to enjoy spending time here.

Superb is the only adjective to describe today's story; thanks to Dem for choosing it & from me also to Humgoo for typing it! I should point out Humgoo not only typed the story but suggested it in the first place, so any credit belongs to him and, of course, to Dr. Proof for another glorious photo.

In die boeken van Elzenga uit de jaren negentig kwam je veel pareltjes tegen.

I am only 58, so I am one of the younger, "hipper" people here. Oh, and as a "newbie," you will want me as a friend, if you know what I mean.

So it's quite possible I'm now the youngest and hippest member on the board And I appreciate you friendship!

What a great story. Thanks to Humgoo for taking the time to type it up and to Shrinkproof for the picture. I notice that the author was only 35 when he died, and as it was 1942 I wonder if he was killed in the war?

Geen dank! Ook Nederlands? Ik spreek Nederlands maar ik ben geen nederlander. Ik woon in Schotland. Ten behoeve van andere mensen zijn de gesprekken hier meestal in het Engels. (I speak Dutch but I'm not from the Netherlands. I live in Scotland. For the benefit of other people the conversations here are usually in English) - Which is what I shall use from now on...

Thanks Dem for having it and matching it with Shrinkproof's amazing photo: seems to me a perfect match. (Thanks Shrinkproof!) I enjoyed the story a lot. The horror elements are vivid, and Carleton includes some funny lines. The photograph is excellent, too. Some things never change. Every academic department has its own Dr. Hollywell.

Excellent photo. I find it more scary than the story. To think that they are real. (Shudder).
