.... because it's by no means a certainty that there will be one. Self having made such a bodge of providing finishing touches to 'The Worst of the Vault Advent Calendar' sampler (now scheduled for 2018), could be there's little appetite for another dose of seasonal suffering, but thought I'd ask. To save time, have paraphrased relevant stuff from last years appeal. Chrissie Demant**** What we need! Short horror & supernatural fiction, conte cruels, illustrations, bonus stuff for exciting 'Vault stocking fillers' department that nobody ever reads. Everything. Guidelines. Just look at previous calendars. Alternatively, suggested themes include spectres, mummies, pervy priests & creepy nuns, trad. ghouls, man-eating plants, black sorcery, gorgons, sport-horror crossovers, nature is revolting, women in peril, giant insects, MAD SCIENTISTS, werewolves, vampires, spicies), grave-robbers, The Festering rip-offs ... whatever you fancy. NO BRAINY STUFF NOBODY CAN UNDERSTAND. NO NICENESS. NEW FACES, OLD FACES EQUALLY WELCOME. Want to join the VAC scene? Please send your stories & pics, etc to whitechapelgothic AT.gmail.com and will get back to you ASAP . **** Advanced warning. Without being even more of a drama queen than usual, run up from now to new Year will see much of my idle time consumed in battling a substantial amount of real-life crap. Consequently, opportunities to scan vintage material/ fire off aggressive begging emails to friends and associates will be so limited as to be non-existent. If there's been little by way of proof-reading in the past, I can guarantee that this time there will be none whatsoever. Even should we achieve minor miracle of acquiring 24 stories, potential for entire project flat-lining at any given moment is very real. Bearing all of the above in mind, maybe you agree that it would be a sin not to, so lets see how we go ...

Kevin, I am so sorry to hear about the real life crap. I can't tell you how relieved I was over the US Thanksgiving holiday weekend to finally get a quiet evening to myself so I could watch the classic saga of a delightful 200 year old Witch Vampiress returning to decimate her family in spectral revenge (Mario Bava's BLACK SUNDAY). Now that was a bit of welcome holiday cheer.
Wishing you all the best!
Steve

Sincere thank you to the three gents who answered yesterday's cry of distress. Forget that '?' in the thread title. As things stand there most certainly WILL be a 2017 Calendar. It's just that this one might end a little prematurely .. on December 4th.

You seriously are too kind, Andy. Chrissie Demant Day One: I'm not even sure what time is doing to us is legal but, eleven stolen months later .... here we go again, again. So, play safe, begin with a supernatural shocker from the Not At Night's, and hope for the best. This is The Black Hare from 1933's Keep on the Light. 'Flavia Richardson' does folk horror as Susan and Elizabeth take up residence in the country cottage bequeathed them by an uncle they never knew. Understated by Behind The Yellow Door standards, but then most things are. Attachments:The Black Hare.pdf (93.94 KB)

Congratulations on undertaking the 8th advent calendar, Dem. Christmas wouldn't be the same without it and your hard work putting it together is very much appreciated. An entry from the Not at Nights is always welcome; my collection from that series is rather poor, so I am looking forward to reading this one tonight.

I'd put Flavia's short little shocker about a nasty relic of the ancient Egyptian Bast cult on my list of something to type up for the project, but since this work by her leads off this year's collection, I presume you wouldn't want something else from her pen.
Looking forward to further gems!
H.

Day Two Derrick SayerThere should be another Not At Night along shortly, but in the meantime, here's a pretty Pan-horror ish little something from sixty Christmases ago. All I can tell you about Alan L. Onions is that this was his solitary contribution to Norman Kark's London Mystery Magazine (#33, June 1957: the same issue featured Shamus Frazer's classic, The Fifth Mask), and it's a properly horrible one. Fans of a certain James Herbert trilogy may well enjoy this visit to .... Attachments:The Tip.pdf (131.75 KB)

Due to your enticing description, I can't wait to read this one! But will probably have to for a few hours, thanks to real life. Thanks so far to everyone involved (& in advance) for this year's Calendar.
