Thanks for these! I used to own that edition of Savage Pellucidar. I think it had a drawing by FF maybe facing the title page, as well.
I love those Sixties Ace paperbacks. They have such a distinctive aesthetic.
Best, Steve

And that cover painting for Escape on Venus is definitely worthy of a place in the "Down the Back of the Vault" gallery. FF definitely gave spectacular ass.

So then..., which of the two cryptozoological superprimates wins the battle? The graceful Tarzan, or the warrior Conan? (Say if they meet a little later, in a confrontation, after Tarzan is done with the crocodile.)

Wonderful art. Thanks!
My answer to Tarzan vs Conan would be pornographic so I'll just keep quiet over that one. Tarzan's Hollywood ululation might be heard at a key moment, however.

Hi Knythagin,
I finally looked up that 1963 edition of Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar with the fabulous cover painting by Frazetta. If you look on your favorite search engine, there are scans of the original painting, presumably emanating from the current owner or perhaps FF's estate. The actual painting seems to have more blue than the greenish look of the cover scans I've seen.
Wonderful work of art. Thank you for mentioning it.

Yes, I would say that is probably so. Although, I really like the greenish look. I assume the publisher intentionally did this, to put the artwork in cool color contrast to the fiery warm orange of the titles (and the burning sticks).

This ERBzine page shows all Tarzan covers (they can be clicked, and even enlarged) by Edward Mortelmans for Four Square Books. erbzine.com/mag45/4562.html Including the one I mentioned earlier, the wonderful and perfect cover for the first book, Tarzan of the Apes. And this, one of my favorites.

This is a strange cover on Tarzan of the Apes. Correct me if I am wrong, but is the decipted scene not the arrival of Lord Greystoke and wife by the mutineers, while being watched by their grown-up son? Weird.

For anyone who's interested, this is a 1934 spoof of Tarzan featuring popular 1930s-1960s character comedian Jimmy Durante-- Schnarzan the Conqueror. This fake trailer is a skit in the bizarre comedy-variety movie Hollywood Party. (I'm not sure it is actually pre-Code.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2BqBX19Vl8H.
