Spend a nice evening with your blog, Doug. Well done. Found more we had in common opinionwise then not. Thanks Andy, My tastes were heavily influenced by what was available to kids at the end of the 1960s. This meant that I was reading lots of Robert Arthur edited anthologies from of the school library and hand me down paperbacks. So learning to read from stories by folks like Hodgson, James, Blackwood, Wells, Bloch, Lovecraft, Kuttner, Derleth, Dunsany, Burrage, Wellman and others affected my mind as a child. Not that I'm complaining. And so, like Lin Carter, I write about what I love un the hope that maybe someone will actualy look up some of these authors when the see how good much of this stuff is. And I also hope that other folks will have some good memories of times past. Many of the stories by these writers were saved from oblivion by being reprinted in these paperbacks. And now that these paperbacka are all but gone and forgotten, I'm terrified by the thought that most of these wonderful stories will finaly disappear forever. I'm not kidding myself though either. When I follow the Blog's statistics I see that most hits are people from google-pictures. That's also ok, at least someone out there is interested in this stuff. Lastly, it's been very helpful in reteaching me how to write readable sentences. Take care. Doug

Nice blog, Doug - like the Bradbury post. the great thing about Doug's blog is you look at the covers and think, got that, had that, lost that, wanted that, never seen that. It's like being in a dusty attic. I have a small sad theory though that Doug is right about the future. I think at some point (just before the zombies arrive) the internet will come to a halt and future generations will be left with only a few of these great books preserved behind grimy plastic covers.

If it's still permissable to do so, here's my blog - www.markwest.org.ukI seem to spend more time talking about The Three Investigators, books I've read and stuff I like than my own writing.

Dammit! This is where I should have mentioned my blog.
Sorry everyone.
Also wanted to say that I've just spent a couple of hours on your blog Mark. I enjoyed it very much and even bought an ebook listed on your blog! (Oh, the shame!)
Cheers

Reading through your blog is a curious thing. You're a year younger than me. You live not far from me (I live in St Neots, Cambs). I married a woman called Alison (she still is called that, incidently). I have a Son that is a year older than your Son (but we both became Fathers at the same age) and of course, from what I can gather, your Son and I share a name (my apologies if this is incorrect). Spooky!

There's a thing! I chanced upon Strange Tales quite recently when I was looking for some stuff on Robert Arthur but didn't make the connection. Lovely looking blog, Mark. And i'm guessing Matt went for either Strange Tales or Ill At Ease 2?

Spooky indeed, Matt!
Really pleased you liked the blog, hope it rung some bells.
The weird (and great) thing about the Net is the connections, don't you think? When I was growing up, nobody I knew read or liked the same stuff I did, nobody liked the same films, everything was mine and it felt good but odd. Now you discover that other people shared the same interests, who didn't live far away.
And yes, my boy's name is Matthew.

I was in the same boat, Mark, until I started senior school and then I found a couple of other kindred spirits. I was lucky to have lived in Enfield for 38 years which is 8 miles from the centre of London but more importantly one hour long bus ride to the original Forbidden Planet in Denmark Street. I envy you for your signing there! Yes, your blog resonated quite a bit. I'm not the Star Wars fan that you are but I have a great affection for the film. I was lucky to see it within two weeks of release in the UK and when my Son was around six I introduced him to the films and for two years he was smitten. He's gone off it now (thank goodness. To be honest I was getting sick of watching them over and over again). And you're Son has a fine, manly name.

I seem to spend more time talking about The Three Investigators, books I've read and stuff I like than my own writing. There's some great stuff on there about The Three Investigators. I need to show it to my wife--that was one of her favorite series when she was growing up, and she's started to reconstruct her collection.
