World Horror Convention 2010 - Brighton

I have just learned that the World Horror Convention in 2010 is to be held in Brighton from the 25-28th March. I believe it is being organised by Steve Jones.

Sounds like the kind of event that most UK-based members of the Vault will probably attend. I'll certainly do my utmost to be there.

First and last time I went to WHC was Toronto last year - home ground 2010. It will be a good one!

I don't know about any other Vaulters, but I am really looking forward to this convention. I have never spent more than one day in Brighton (really an evening and early morning, truth told), and welcome the opportunity to spend some time there.

I must admit, I've NEVER been to Brighton - but I'm certainly going to try to get there for this. It's too good an opportunity to miss, actually getting WHC in the UK.

You can now book for the convention online at the above link. It's £50 at the moment, but rises to £60 from February 1st next year.

OK I've registered & they want subjects for panel discussion, particularly with a UK theme.

I just booked.

I'm into anything anyone thinks of, especially things involving promotion for the Vault. We must be able to string a few sentences together. I had to address the Haggis last week. There can't be much more sinister deliveries than that.

I confess I'm looking forward to seeing some of the despicable characters from the Vault in the naked flesh.

Is it worth booking a room at the hotel or does anyone have a better (ie cheaper) idea.

I'm a virgin at these things. Always been a hermit.

Great - I'm seriously considering booking for this - preferably before the price goes up at the end of February. It's a long way off, and I've no idea yet if I'll be able to go, but it'd be lovely to meet up with some Vault folks if I do.

Re somewhere to stay, I'd intended looking around some of the cheaper places nearer the time - too early for me to think of anything like that yet. Someone I know from Pantechnicon lives around there somewhere, so I'm hoping he might be able to advise on cheap but OK places to stay!

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, The World Horror Convention will be held over March 25-28, 2010, in the historic Victorian seaside city of Brighton, on the picturesque south coast of England. This is the first time that the event will have been held off the North American continent.

The theme is "Brighton Shock! - A Celebration of the European Horror Tradition from Victorian Times to the Present Day", and the convention will host numerous panels, talks, presentations, readings, workshops and displays devoted to horror, macabre, mystery and thriller fiction and art in all its varied and fearsome forms.

The venue will be the historic Royal Albion Hotel, which dates back more than 180 years and is situated directly opposite Brighton's iconic Palace Pier and a stone's throw from the beach. There are plenty of alternative hotels and Bed & Breakfasts in the immediate surroundings, catering for all budgets, and Brighton is filled with restaurants, wine bars and clubs. Antiquarian shopping precinct The Lanes, the Sea Life Centre and the world-famous Royal Pavilion are also within easy walking distance.

Brighton has direct transport links from Gatwick International Airport and the centre of London, and is easily accessible for overseas visitors, especially those from mainland Europe. And if you want to extend your stay, then Britain's annual National Science Fiction Convention, Odyssey 2010, is being organised near to Heathrow airport the following weekend.
