i shall shelve mr james next to a hamlyn nasty, next to jane austen, next to richard allen, and be proud. different writers, different aims, different reasons for reading 'em. Exactly, my attitude, too. des

I've always found stuff like The Others or Haunted much more frightening than, say Friday 13th. Bookwise I'd rather go for pulp. That's an interesting point. The most frightening film is usually one without any gore. But, generally, with books and films, I think eclectic is the (brainy?) word! I wouldn't rule anything in or out. des

Death to Brainy Horror! If I were brainy I wouldn't be writing brainy horror. The Ark or Baser Pulps stuff pretty honestly up front HORROR with no braininess at all, perhaps. ;D

What browser are you using, Des? The IE It's just more difficult to do, not impossible. Rog described it above somewhere. Shame that all previous quotes are now unascribed. I'm not having sleepless nights about it, though.

I expect they'll be solved before long, but all the previous quote ascriptions are still missing and it is difficult, if not impossible, to move from page to page on a single thread. It looks as if Proboards are not going to do anything about the above. It is still hard to move from page to page on a single thread and most quote ascriptions are still missing. Ah welll. These are things that can be lived with with steely determination. Not so serious as the credit crunch, after all. ;D des

I ended up sticking to "Fab 208" Radio Luxembourg. Well, I could have a lot to say about that station (mainly listening to it 1961/63 till Caroline started), if anyone is interested! E.g. I heard the Beatles for the first time on Luxembourg (Love Me DO) in 1962.

In fact what a story. I had no idea people were shot and killed over pirate radios. Pirate Radio in the Sixties was pretty big on the Essex Coast and I listened to it a lot and consider myself to be a semi-expert on it (eg the early careers of Tony Blackburn, Kenny Everitt, John Peel etc etc). There was one station at a certain point that you could only hear in Walton-on-Naze! Whilst, in contrast, there was BIG L and Radio Caroline which you could hear even beyond London.........

I often listened to Radio Sutch in the Sixties: www.offshoreechos.com/forts/radio_sutch.htmThis record was often played on there, or maybe it wasn't. I forget. I'm not admitting anything. Anyone else listen to Radio Sutch broadcasting from a North Sea redoubt? I was in Harwich yesterday. Plenty of derelict redoubts around there and even tripods stepping nto the sea...

Now let's see if quotes appear properly ascribed... above? Weirdmonger and Demonik are given in the preview. All past Quotes have lost their ascriptions. I think the ones since the change are OK. des

That's better! It's fixed! Thanks, Demonik. I expect they'll be solved before long, but all the previous quote ascriptions are still missing and it is difficult, if not impossible, to move from page to page on a single thread. des

Good idea, Caroline. Except I can't afford all those books with their printing costs and writers' fees. PS: Had this suggested elsewhere; Do two books - exactly the same cover but with different contents all titled Cone Zero and with no author names listed at all. When someone orders, you pick one at random as the copy they receive.
