Hi everyone, found this site while spending hours surfing web trying to find a couple of books I read as a teenager back in the '70s. I couldn't find one of them as I can't remember the title so I'm hoping someone here can help me out if I give you the bit of info I remember. 1. It's a horror anthology 2. story set in medieval times about a woman married to an ugly brute of a man with very bad teeth/breath. She's got a lover, husband finds out, gets them together under some pretext and proceeds to torture them to death in all sorts of horrible ways including red hot pokers through eyes with graphic descriptions of sizzling eyeballs dripping down cheeks . 3. story has two women trapped in a mans house. They are drugged and when they wake find various parts of arms/legs have been surgically removed. They are kept strung up like sides of meat. Turns out the man eats the flesh at dinner parties and both he and his manservant (who, if I remember right, is described as very hairy) have a penchant for sex with these 'torso' girls. Can't remember how this one ends. 4. story about wild children living in a woods who attack people and eat them. I remember a line of text that goes something like "all that could be heard was the sound of healthy young teeth scraping on white bones" I think no.4 may be in 8th pan book of horror stories; I'm not sure about the others but a cover picture that comes to mind is a skull with loads of worms/maggots falling out the eyes etc. As I said, I read these books as a teen and I've never been able to forget these particular stories. I hope you can help cos it's started driving me mad. Thanks.

Hi Basil I think the book you're after is Pan Horror #8. If you follow the link, check the plot outlines for Raymond Williams - The Assassin W. Baker-Evans - The Children Charles Braunstone - Suitable Applicant Does that sound about right?
