I've got the NOTW Dawn Of The Dead but haven't got around to watching it yet. Just watched the remake which I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would (it was the shorter version). Also got the Sun's Scanners and Hellraiser. There's a very obliging newsagent near us. You just go in on the Saturday and they'll give you the whole weeks DVDs if they've any left over (and there's usually loads) - you don't even have to fork out for the paper.

THE GUARDIAN will be giving away a DVD of GODZILLA (1954) next Saturday (the 19th). This will presumably be the original Japanese version with English subtitles, as opposed to the dubbed/cut export version, which included a bunch of newly shot scenes starring Raymond Burr.

In anticipation of the free GODZILLA disc in tomorrow's GUARDIAN, today's edition has a terrific Japanese poster for the film, with some interesting notes on the reverse side.

Bloke down what's left of Brick Lane market (Cheshire St. tentacle) has a stack of these freebies and knocks them out at four for £1. Best thing is, he spares you the embarrassment of buying The Daily Ma*l although, come to think of it, there ain't a DVD's alive worth the epic disgrace. These are nice! Corman's demon flower power classic as timid young Seymour is forced into mass murder to provide for Audrey Junior, his pet carnivorous plant. I can understand why the Doors (now considered safe enough via 'rock classic' status) would interest The Times, but it's unlikely Spizz lured people into his band on the promise that "one day, they'll be raving about Where's Captain Kirk? in the culture supplement". Same goes for UK Subs Stranglehold (live), The Vibrators Automatic Lover, Alternative TV How Much Longer and The Dickies Eve Of Destruction (live). Also includes a track apiece from SLF, Members, Blockheads, Jilted John and - in a terrible moment of misjudgement - Sham 69's Hersham Boys.
