Sax Rohmer – The Return of Dr. Fu Manchu (Methuen, 1916, as "The Devil Doctor"; this edition Pyramid Books, 1965, 192 pages) This is the second novel about the evil mastermind, written during the Great War. Pyramid Books later became Jove Books who did many popular series which were seemingly everywhere, from W. E. B. Griffin's military soap operas to Barry Sadler's Casca, Nick Carter Killmaster, Horror, Romances and Adult Western like Longarm. Nowadays it is part of PenguinRandomHouse and has got stripped of its identity. Most of what they used to publish for decades they wouldn't touch with a stick today. While Pyramid was reprinting lots of old adventure novels and science fiction like E. E. Doc Smith and Arthur C. Clarke, it also published many new voices like Harlan Ellison or Bruce Sterling. Also there was a lot of Horror, as can be seen here.

Read this one as The Devil Doctor directly after Daughter of ..., both of which I much prefer to the first book (not sure I finished it). Have replaced the cover scans in initial post on the Pyramid Books checklist.
