Thanks, James. I didn't know David, but he was a good friend of several people I do know, and his death has been devastating. It was really horrible--somebody most likely drunk to the nines/high as a kite hit him head on when he was driving home on New Year's Eve. That is what I read, anyhow.
I think he was around my age, and his books have been cited for years as significant works on various classic bodies of film. So tragic.

I’d just finished reading his superb Bram Stoker biography when I heard the tragic news. His books are so well researched and about some of my favourite movies. He was courteous and fun on social media too. I’m so sorry for his family and friends. And selfishly upset that there’ll be no more of his wonderful books.
