David Bishop - Fiends of the Eastern Front 1: Operation Vampyr (BL Publishing, Games Workshop, A Black Fame Publication, 2005, 254 pages) The first of four novels, based on the graphic novel by Gerry Finley-Day and Carlos Ezquerra. All written by David Bishop, the long-time editor of 2000 AD. At the time Black Flame Publication put a lot of novels based on their comic properties on the market. Bishop, who had already written a few Judge Dredd novels in the early 90s, did some of them. I have only a hazy recollection of this, of course it was no Kessler or Hassel, but it was decent. Bishop's Nikolai Dante novels, also a trilogy, were quite entertaining. He was quite good at this. I wonder what he does today, as it was a while I saw his name on something.
As there was no iconic art of the graphic novel from 1980 to sell this, all novels featured those photoshop covers, which I think were okay. Coincidently - or maybe not, who knows - the last novel Fiends of the Rising Sun relocated the tale to the war in the Pacific, like Laurence James did in his The Killers series.
The novels are still available as Ebooks.
