Have I actually found a nasty NEL that's not on the Vault of Evil? (Probably not)
Sweet Cyanide fits in with NEL horror novels of the time. Multiple murders, characters of varying unlikability, a couple of sex scenes (though they are actually necessary to the plot) and the angle is that a child is the murderer (that's not a spoiler).
Rather unusual in that it's aged well, and the central character explores dressing up as a boy to prove that girls are as just as good, almost making a it an acceptable contemporary story... if it wasn't for all the murder stuff.
Carl Noone appears to have written three novels for NEL in the late seventies and then disappeared. Can't find any info online about them. I'm assuming he/she is gay, which also makes this unusual for NEL. These stories were only ever printed once.
Anyone know if Carl Noone was a one of NEL's many pseudonymous authors?

That's intriguing, Sadako. Would be interested to hear more of this author's work. Unfortunately many gay men died in the course of the Eighties, during the Plague Years.
Hel.

That's why for me turning 65 in July felt like a triumph instead of some bloody funeral oration. Take THAT, religious right! Yowza!
cheers, Hel.
