Nightmare on Elm Street: Christa Faust - Dreamspawn (Black Flame/BL Publishing, 2005, 400 pages) This is the second in the series of new novelisations done by British imprint Black Flame in the early 00s. The first was by David Bishop.
American Christa Faust wrote a few novelisations for movies and tv series, but also did original work like her crime novel Money Shot for the well regarded Hard Case Crime imprint.

It's funny that Freddy came to be considered an anti-hero, when he began a child murderer (and was apparently originally intended to be a molester) and even in the extremely goofy Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare was still definitely a sadist.

It's funny that Freddy came to be considered an anti-hero, when he began a child murderer (and was apparently originally intended to be a molester) and even in the extremely goofy Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare was still definitely a sadist. Freddy as a character was really toned down after the first movie. I guess it was necessary after it became a franchise with 3. 1 is the only one which takes its nightmarish atmosphere serious. Somehow I always thought it a given that he was a molester and child murderer an euphemism.
I used to be a big fan, but haven't seen the movies in ages. A few set pieces have become unforgettable, the cellar, the sheep, the rhymes, the dream warriors. The only movie I never watched again is New Nightmare. I don't like this self-referential Hollywood stuff.
