Something H P Lovecraft would not only have refused to eat, but screamed in abject horror at.

Something H P Lovecraft would not only have refused to eat, but screamed in abject horror at. I would probably scream in horror at the price.

It looks like a 3-D model of the digestive tract of some small creature.

The only reason I can think of why Lovecraft disliked seafood, is that no one in that household could cook and season it properly. As a child he was traumatized at the dinner table.

It is such an affront towards the integrity of Howard Phillips Lovecraft! Think to have done something similar towards Poe. It would have been unheard of!

I think I must admit that Poe did have a sharper intellect than Lovecraft. But Lovecraft really was a very decent and gentle fellow, aside from his stomach not being able to hold fish, which would come back up on the dinner plate, much to the embarrasment of his socialite wife and friends. Lovecraft himself didn't mind it so much, since he would immediately fabricate some impromptu horror fantasy about the contents.
But by and large a very very decent gentleman, and proud of his racial and noble ancestry. Poe on the other hand, and M. P. Shiel, would today be considered pedophiles. And M. R. James a pederast. I think some humorous repartees and caricatures could be shaped around such circumstances, although I don't believe I have seen it yet.

I suppose this is how you end up when spending too much time with weird fiction, without making something useful of it like Ramsey Campbell did and remaining sensible in a social context. Reality catches up with you and bites at your heels. Insanity knocks on your door, and invites you to fall down into the Abyss.
