River Witch (Witch #1) by Felicia Andrews This was written in Charles L. Grant's Old Mother Riley phase (obscure British film reference here, as I recently watched Mother Riley Meets the Vampire), when he was known as Felicia Andrews. It dates from 1979. Blurb from goodreads: Raised to be the finest pilot on the Hudson, Amanda Franklin had lost her heart to a high-born beau who left her and her well-loved father to his cutthroat enemies. Now this raven-haired beauty would fight back — and even the honey-tongued gambler who loved her could not stop her headlong passion for revenge. There are two other books in this series, and they don't actually seem to be linked except for an American West setting, all having different characters. There are seven in total under the Felicia Andrews name; there are also another four as Deborah Lewis, which seem very Gothic in character, based on what I have seen.
