I, too, shall be haunting the nearest WHSmith branch tomorrow, as I'm far too impatient to wait for the copies I requested from the publisher. Any luck? I tried Canon Street and the larger store at Liverpool Street Station mid-morning but no joy. Will try at Victoria tomorrow ... It's sounding a bit exciting. Like a film noir! There is a hint of danger in the air. Will you get to it first, or will more dangerous, more ruthless characters beat you to it? My heart is pounding!

No luck in WHSmith, as I couldn't find anything in the direction the shop assistant vaguely gestured to when I asked. I did find a local newsagent's that sold them, so I grabbed a set of issues there. I have some copies ordered through the publishers, but I need to wait till they're ready to be collected. Mags Direct still have a very limited stock of Nightmare Express, and copies of the batch that's just gone off sale in shops (including the Gorgons issue), though, oddly, they don't have the other three that came out today. magsdirect.co.uk/?s=commando&post_type=productI couldn't resist popping my copy onto the shelf where I have my Amicus Blu-rays and DVDs lined up just to see it next to its inspiration. Now I just need to summon up the courage to read the damn thing...

Seems digital will have to wait. There is a gap of a few months, the newest to buy is 5682. Yeah. Up until April they were always on Kindle/ComiXology a day before they hit the shops... but, then, up until April I was the guy who made sure they were there. Ahem... Readly is up to date, and I'm assuming PageSuite and other platforms are, though I haven't checked. Amazon always had different deadlines, so that may be the issue there.

To be honest I don't really know what you are seeking as I couldn't be bother to read this thread properly, but I'm sure whatever it is it is very exciting as it seems to involve The Lurker in the Shadows. Was there any fog while you searched? I say cancel ULEZ and bring back smog, after all it's a well known London tradition to get lost in a "pea-souper", a bit like jellied eels and pearly kings and queens.

Tried Victoria station this morning ā still no joy. Further proof ā for those, surely, very few who may require it ā that They are out to silence me. Will try Krina's newsagents in Whitechapel tomorrow ā it's a crazy stunt to pull, but it might just work. Worst case scenario is waiting for A*az*n to get their act together and [words I hoped never to type under any circumstances] going with the eB*ok alternative. #Illuminati #NWO #IstandwithDorries #CultoftheHorrible #prayersforNadine #Get Rid of the Old Cult # MK-Ultra #TheGoats #TearsforNadine

So I called in a few favours and with much help from certain FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES (best you don't know too much), finally tracked down a copy of the elusive;Dan McGachey & Mike Dorey - Nightmare Express: Commando #5693 (D.C. Thomson, 28 October 2023) Mike Dorey & Bryn Houghton Take your ticket for a train-bound trilogy of terrorsBlurb: At a mist-shrouded railway station, a quartet of mismatched troops are assembled, their recent actions marking them out as the ideal escort detail for a mysterious cargo. But as they hurtle through the night, curiosity, greed, and terror lead them in turn to enter the cargo compartment, each to discover the eerie train of events that led them to this fateful assignment. And as the journey detours through a series of nightmarish tales, can any of them hope to disembark before the night train reaches its final destination? A steam locomotive through war-torn Europe, destination: classified. Four men ā RAF pilot Dominic Lowe, his navigator, Roy Bailey, midshipman Neville Maitland, and Corporal Frank 'Frankie' Marsh ā have been hand-picked to stand sentry outside the freight compartment throughout this foggy night; "Our records of your recent conduct have marked each of you out for this assignment." What can they possibly have done to be entrusted with this vital mission? Something thoroughly, despicably unpleasant, we hope! Book YOUR seat aboard the NIGHTMARE EXPRESS to find out! Well done, gents. Absolutely loved it. Great fun scrutinising both text and pictures for nods to the Amicus anthologies. You really must do more of these.

I'm glad a copy finally found its way into your grasp. It means there's one less of them out there, causing untold chaos in an unsuspecting world. Delighted you enjoyed it, too. Mike's art is an atmospheric joy. As for doing more... they may have to physically restrain me if they want me to stop now. And as if I haven't talked about Nightmare Express enough, here I am, talking about the inspiration behind the script: downthetubes.net/creating-commando-comics-nightmare-express-writer-daniel-mcgachey/?

Fabulous that the wonderful Amicus portmanteau films were acknowledged. It was gratifying to me this year to see several folks in classic horror fan groups mention viewings of From Beyond the Grave, a favorite that finally seems to be coming into its own in the fandom. Such a marvelous role for Peter Cushing, and a beautifully accomplished performance from him, headlining a fab ensemble cast.
Anything involving a train always makes me think of Dr Terror's House of Horrors--another firm favorite here.
I really know nothing of this publication and it sounds like something of a rara avis--congratulations on securing a copy!
cheers, Hel.

From Beyond the Grave is my favourite of the Amicus portmanteau films, and also one of my favourite films in general. So much so that I have just acquired an actual copy of the screenplay that was used during the making of the film fifty years ago, The script originally belonged to one of the scenic artists employed on the film. It takes pride of place among my Amicus-related books and Blu-rays. And, needless to say, I took great care not to haggle or attempt to rip off the seller... just in case the script arrived with a surprise 'gift'... Anything involving a train always makes me think of Dr Terror's House of Horrors--another firm favorite here. The train setting is a deliberate homage to that film, just as scenes set in fairgrounds and strange old antique shops are deliberately chosen as tributes to other films in the cycle. I really know nothing of this publication and it sounds like something of a rara avis--congratulations on securing a copy! Commando has been running since 1961, and used to be a staple of newsagents' racks and shelves, as well as a household name in the UK. With the rise of supermarkets, many traditional comics have become harder to find on the high street, but Commando is still plugging away with its tales of derring do, heroism and valour... with the occasional ghost or zombie or express train to terror to keep things interesting.
