Hello. New member here hoping for help identifying a TV episode that has haunted me for virtually all of my life. It terrified me, but despite searching over many years I have never discovered what it was, or even if it is a figment of my imagination.
It must have been broadcast on UK TV some time in the early to mid 1970s. I would have been under 10 years old, so it was a daytime broadcast. It was black and white, and I'm pretty sure it was American, but not certain.
The story involved a photographer who was asked to take some photos in the attic of an imposing mansion. Whilst taking photos in the attic (with his female assistant), there is a terrifying animalian noise and the lights go out. However, the flash of the camera fires.
When the photographer develops the photo he discovers he has captured the shadow of a rearing horse on the attic wall.
My memory gets a bit misty here, but there are further manifestations of the spectral horse, usually precursored by the sound of galloping hooves before it strikes. It attacks in the house and the large garden.
The episode finishes with the discovery that the horse is, in fact, a man in a suit (I know!). Very Scooby Doo. However, as his deceit is revealed and he is led on the floor surrounded by other people, the sounds of galloping hooves are heard again. Terrified, the man says 'that isn't me, that isn't me!' and the episode ends.
Please tell me that this wasn't a childhood fever dream! Any help to resolve this 50 year mystery gratefully received!!

Hello! Well, this is a surprisingly easy one as it's been on Talking Pictures recently! It's called 'The Horse Of The Invisible' featuring Donald Pleasance as Carnacki The Ghost Finder, adapted from W Hope Hodgson short story and part of the series 'The Rivals Of Sherlock Holmes', an anthology series from the early seventies. Its on DVD but not youtube by the look of it. They actually go into the cellar for the photographs, but the climax takes place upstairs.
No dream, and you should be able to track it down fairly easily.

Wow, that was quick work! Thank you so, so much! I watch Talking Pictures from time to time and would have been flabbergasted to have come across this. I will seek it out as it's a plaster I need to rip off once and for all. Thanks again!

It doesn't look like The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes is on it yet, but it may be in the future
