Charles L. Grant - Raven (Tor Books, 1993, posted edition NEL 1993, 214 pages) After a couple of YAs this was the last soft horror novel of Charles L. Grant before he jumped on the what's popular bandwagon and produced tv-novelizations, a "Millennium" four novel cycle and a series about some occult investigators, before he fell ill and died in 2006 with only 64. His publisher Tor marketed this as "A novel of Suspense" as they didn't believe in the term "horror" any longer. The novel of my scan must be a miss-print as it omits the writer's name and the title. It should look like that. Maybe it has 10 p more worth like that, but I doubt it.

I read this years ago, although I'm not sure I would have been as attracted to it if it'd been that NEL cover and not the more evocative TOR cover I thought most of it was top-notch but it became increasingly weak as it went on and I didn't think the supernatural element worked well.

Naming the bar Maclaren's on that cover is a good joke, even if it only works in hindsight of course. Still it is a rather blah motive.
