Window by Bob Leman features in the (rather excellent) 1980 anthology The Best Horror Stories From The Magazine of Fantasy And Science Fiction and has been discussed before in the Vault. Thing is - I no longer possess the book and I can't remember how the story ends. I know it's perhaps a bit unethical but can anyone enlighten me?

It's been a long time since I read it, but if I remember correctly, the things -- whatever they are -- figure out how to pound on the barrier repeatedly until it opens, just as the humans did. I think one of the things is using a bloody bone of the now-deceased protagonist to pound on the barrier, and there the story ends, implying that the window is two-way and the things will eventually get into our world. It was adapted for television as "A View Through the Window" for the short-lived American TV series Night Visions and was one of the very few good episodes of that mostly lousy show.
