The collected volume of illustrated Stefan Grabinski stories in deluxe format is now available for order from Centipede Press, and is almost sold out after being "live" for an hour. If you'd like a copy, you should go to their website immediately. This volume had been announced 8 years ago and has just gone to press now: www.centipedepress.com/masters/mwtgrabinski.html
I doubt there will be any copies available later on today. It's not cheap, but it's by far the best, most comprehensive compilation of stories in English by the "Polish Poe" ever.

Wow, $285. It would be great if this work were published someday in an affordable edition for those who would like to read the stories.
It's an instant collector's item for those who have the cash available.
Glad to hear it is finally going to see the light of day!
cheers, H.

No, sorry, I am not Mirek. He's not posted about this yet on his Facebook Grabinski page or elsewhere. I just thought this might be of interest here.

No, sorry, I am not Mirek. Not to worry, it is fine not to be Mirek. For instance, I am not Mirek either.

Hi all!
It is wonderful that such a voluminous book with the writings of Stefan Grabinsky has finally been printed.
It will be interesting whether those who buy the book will share their impressions of what they have read or will they selfishly remain silent.
Some of the best stories can be read here: Start with "Fumes and read on without skipping.

Thank you, Middoth! I'm sure there will be "blog" reviews of the Centipede Press book but they may not be terribly substantive.
And many thanks for that isfdb link; I'll have a look.
It's very nice to see you here again!
cheers, Hel

Ramsey Campbell probably recognizes a congenial author in Grabinsky. Fritz Leiber sometimes crosses paths with him too. Although Grabinski's monsters are largely from medieval folklore, some of them owe to the achievements of modern (then) technology. The degree of erotica he has is stronger than what the authors of Weird Tales allowed themselves. Also glad that I caught a wave to visit the Vault.

I received my copy of this book today, and I will try to post a complete review for it here later. My initial observations are that the book is somewhat oversized, printed on higher quality paper, has nice reproduction for the few watercolor illustrations included, has a good quality cloth-covered slipcase, and has a short introduction with a few photographs related to Grabinski's publications during his lifetime and later film and other adaptions. Most of the contents previously appeared in other anthologies that had also been translated by Miroslaw Lipinski, i.e., The Dark Domain, The Motion Demon, In Sara's House, and On the Hill of Roses. However, there's also some new material.
All in all, Stefan Grabinski, Masters of the Weird Tale represents about 3 decades of work by the translator, and it's nice to have all of it in one deluxe edition. I think this may be the most money I've ever spent for a newly printed book, so it was definitely because of my tremendous affection for the fiction of this author. I am grateful to Lipinski for bringing Grabinski to the English-speaking audience, because it's very unlikely I will ever be proficient in Polish. It makes me wonder about how many other very fine weird-fiction authors' works are hidden away from us because we can't read the languages they wrote in, or our proficiency isn't great enough (as is the case for me with French). Two of my top five weird-fiction writers fit into this category, Jean Ray and Grabinski. There aren't enough good translators out there, and then it may be hard to convince English-language presses to take a chance on authors who are unknown to their likely readership. It took 9 years from the time the contract was signed on this book until it went to press.

Ah, when I see a release by Centipede I can always expect it's something I won't buy due to an exorbitant price and extremely tight print run. Not wrong again!
I believe I've only read Fumes at this point, which really stayed with me. Reminds me of the loner in a small, strange town theme from the West.
