Searches far wide only revealed to me the name of the artist of this piece, but nowhere could I find what book, if any, it was ever used for. Would anyone know?

I can't help you, I'm afraid, but it certainly is exquisite!

I can't help you, I'm afraid, but it certainly is exquisite! Isn't it! I ran across it on a social media site where it was evidently nicked for a gag bit done up like this: (apologies if this insert is any way out of bounds here)

It was used on a German heftroman in 1977. It was the weekly series Geister-Krimi by the publisher Kelter. It was no. 193 of the long running series. It featured every week a new short novel, incoporating a few standing characters of the usual occult detectives which stayed by the writers who created them.
The writer "John Blood" also wrote for other publishers under other pseudonyms, doing westerns and crime novels. The title is "Sir Natas' Devilpact"
I seem to remember that the cover was later used for the short-lived 2nd edition and some packages, but I am not sure. Geister-Krimi had the same layout and colour palette for its whole run to distinguish itself from the large competition.
