The Great Return (1915) There are a few threads on Arthur Machen and his works already in the Vault. This book is just one of the many editions of his work.
It is a kind of interesting edition insofar, that it may indeed be the first massmarket paperback edition (remember those?) of Machen in the US. The publisher is Pinnacle, which at first may seems a bit strange. Pinnacle was the THE publisher who made the violent paperback original series successful. But at the time it still was a struggling publisher which basically did everything from cookbooks to TV novelizations. Its big success THE EXECUTIONER was just developing, so why not Arthur Machen next to THE U.S. GOVERNMENT BUDGET COOKBOOK by Karen Dent or CAST YOUR OWN SPELL by Sybil Leek. All for 95 Cents.
