Scott-Moncrieff's first collection of horror fiction, followed by THE VAIVAISUKKO'S BRIDE (1949). Collects nine horror stories. Includes "Schloss Wappenburg," a vampire tale. Other themes include cannibalism ("Not for the Squeamish"), man buried alive by robots ("Count Szolnok's Robots"), necrophilia ("A Baroque Tomb") South Seas witchcraft ("They Shine by Night"); several tales quite effective, others sadistic, crude material horror. Author's strong suit was ideas, not execution. Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 191
