I have a problem with this cover, which is that the Ripper figure in silhouette at the bottom is ambiguous in terms of which direction he is walking in. For some reason, I always see it as showing him walking in the opposite direction to the girl - so they have just passed each other, and her facial expression is saying "what a weird looking guy". I'm sure this is completely wrong, and he is supposed to be following her - but I still see it the other way. Maybe it's some sort of test. Read Return of the Ripper this time last year. Zero recollection of it whatsoever, and turgid commentary no help. Have no idea if the novel's killer actually dresses up as a stage Ripper to commit his or her crimes, but looks to me as though figure in illustration has walked past a girl in whom he has little or no interest.
