News coming in that the Hammer icon has passed away, aged 88. 2021 is off to a shitty start... That is sad news. I was only just watching her on one of the extras to the British movie Ghost Story a few days ago. She came over as a lovely lady, which ties in with everything I have ever heard about her.

Very sad news indeed. I've loved her in everything I've seen with her. About 20 years ago, she participated in commentary tracks for such films as Dracula, Prince of Darkness and Rasputin the Mad Monk and came across as sharp, generous, no-nonsense and an utter delight.
A non-genre performance by her worth catching if opportunity ever presents itself is in an episode from season 1 of The Man from UNCLE. Barbara played a retired secret agent in her 40s (around ten years older than her own age at the time, which was quite unusual for a leading actress in the 1960s) who gets dragooned into the latest nonsense with Solo and Kuriyakin. The script gave her some lovely moments, and she played it all so beautifully.

A non-genre performance by her worth catching if opportunity ever presents itself is in an episode from season 1 of The Man from UNCLE. So THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. was in fact intended as a realistic mainstream drama.

Another sad loss. I have seen her Dracula often enough to remember her vividly. But my favorite of her movies still is Quatermass and the Pit. Always wanted so see Hobb's End in person :-)

Very sad news that Barbara has passed away. She was a fine and beautiful actress who always brought a touch of class to whatever role she was playing. Yes, agree that Quatermass and the Pit is one of her best, but also her performance as Helen in Dracula: Prince of Darkness I thought was outstanding. She played the prim and stuffy Helen so well, then her transformation into the wanton and seductive post-fanging Helen just showed how versatile an actress she was. Another Hammer legend sadly gone. RIP.
