hi, as you must know I'm a newcomer here and to the world of vintage UK horror paperbacks. Thanks to the excellent Paperbacks from hell and the great blog Too much horror fiction I know a bit about the American ones but the uk horror paperbacks of 70s-80s are still a mystery for me. I know and have read and enjoyed James Herbert, Graham Masterton, Shaun Hutson, Guy N Smith, Ramsey Campbell but which other books and anthologies are interesting? can you make between all a little list of suggested readings? Thanks in advance

From various decades, but all excellent are the following:
In case you haven't read any of them yet: The Pan Books of Horror Stories series, some of which were published in the 70s & 80s.
"Terror Tales of...." (East Anglia, Yorkshire, Cornwall, etc.)
"Black Book of Horror" 11 volume anthology series, both from the last few years.
Some excellent authors, most of whom are current but some who wrote in the 70s & 80s as well as before/after:
J. L. Probert, a fellow Vault member
Paul Finch (ditto), who edited several of the "Terror Tales of" series, & also writes excellent detective fiction
Elizabeth Walter, a Pan series contributor with her own 600pg+ collection "The Spirit of the Place & Other Strange Tales" in paperback & Kindle
Thana Niveau Alison Littlewood
Basil Copper
Richard Davis Roger Johnson
Joel Lane Gary McMahon R. Chetwynd-Hayes
Charles Birkin H. R. Wakefield William Miekle Brian Lumley
Reggie Oliver
Stephen Jones' horror anthologies (a mixture of US/UK authors)
Steve Duffy (if you like M.R. James' style, you'll enjoy "The Night Comes On"
Three masters from the early part of the 1900s are A. M. Burrage, Frederick Cowles, & E. F. Benson, whom you may have heard of or read already. All the Benson stories are available to download/read for free; I just noticed that my favorite story "The Confession of Charles Linkworth" is also available free online in Spanish.
It's thanks to the Vault that I've discovered all of these authors and their great horror fiction. Hope you'll enjoy whatever authors you try!
