I'd love to find a ghost/horror story paperback anthology from early 70's
One particular story has an illustration. Someone sleeping in a bed sees a hideous deformed shadow which has long thumbnails and hair down back.
a sort of hump-backed shadow most notable for the nails...very scary
thanks in advance

There's a nice one in my favourite childhood anthology, More Tales to Tremble By, but I don't think it's the one:
Always liked the cover:

Thanks for the help guys.
Its not either of those...or at least its not that particular picture or book. Also I wouldn't be able to say whether it is thurnley abbey because its only the picture I can recall rather than the story.
the book was possibly a blue cover (maybe an aiden chambers-style). we had it in our house in the early 70's.
picture depicts the shadow of a huge humped back ape-like figure with dense hair down the spine and thumbnails like an iguanadon !!!!
nb that Thurnley abbey story is very gruesome ...well done
