Nice offers, but the prices are a bit steep. 10 GPB for a Shakleford or a Smith?

10 or 20 quid does seem a lot to pay for some things, but it's certainly interesting to get an idea of the relative values.

and that something is only worth ten or twenty quid if the person is prepared to pay that amount. If they are, then it is at that moment in time.
Case in point - I have a first edition Dr Terrors House of Horrors - and I could reasonably ask £10 - £20. However, it's signed by John Burke, that title is very rare with his signature on it, so when I'm at London bookfair selling it in April, I'll be charging £200 for it. Too much? Well, quite a lot of people would balk at paying £10 - £20, moreso at £200, but if it's that sought after (and three different booksellers have priced it on abe at £300+ unsigned) - then it'll find its market. And if it doesn't, I take it home.

I got a nice copy of the book for $2 at the Lifeline bookfair a few years ago, not signed unfortunately, except by a previous owner. Charity bookfairs, flea markets and junk shops are still a great source of cheap vintage paperbacks, at least in Australia - may be different in blighty. Picked up this Sphere monster book at the junk shop last week for $2:
