Dear all
This may be slightly off-topic but it will interest you if your ambition is to write your own fiction and get it published. I recently read Suzanne Ruthven's 2013 book "Horror Upon Horror: A Step by Step Guide to Writing a Horror Novel".
It provides a decent introduction to the sub-genres of Horror / Gothic fiction but goes beyond that. It provides invaluable advice to budding writers, which is drawn from the author's experiences in running writers' workshops. It will prompt writers to examine their own work critically, using questions and short tasks. It brings the hard discipline of marketing to the creative arena, to help writers hone their work for the reading public. Yes, marketing is boring in the classroom but if anyone wants to actually sell a book then it is fairly important.
Which raises the question, how many forum members are budding authors?

Which raises the question, how many forum members are budding authors? It would be a lot easier to list those who aren't. Not sure about "budding" as many of our regulars have novels/ collections/ anthology & magazine appearances under their belts (though not this one, obviously).
