Finally, right at this moment I’m finishing another novel which I’ll keep quiet about for now. All I can say is that I’ve been excited about it the entire time I’ve been writing it, and that it stays thematically true to my Black Book and Dr Valentine stories. Even typing this is making me grin at the fact that I’m now going to go and write some more of it. Because while writing can be exasperating and frustrating and can drive one to distraction, at the end of the day I do find it tremendous fun. The main point of my work is to make people smile and as long as that keeps on happening, then all the work is worth doing. - John Llewellyn Probert in conversation with Simon Bestwick. The Lowdown: Mr & Mrs Edition, 22 October 2015. Not sure if it's the one cited above, but Lord P. has a new book out next month, Dead Shift from Horrific Tales Publishing - and there's a launch. Blurb: Nobody Likes Going to Hospital
They thought the old man was harmless. Just another tramp found collapsed in an abandoned housing estate. At Northcote Hospital they put him in a bed and let him keep the strange old book he insisted on clutching.
Nobody Likes Having to Stay In
Three friends working through the night at Northcote Hospital are about to experience the worst shift of their lives, trapped inside the building as creatures undreamed of in their worst nightmares begin to crawl from the walls in a bid to make the place their own.
And Nobody Wants to Die There
Soon everyone and everything in Northcote Hospital will be changed. Will anyone be able to stop the evil worming its way through the building? Or will the horror escape to infect the planet?
John Llewellyn Probert’s Dead Shift
Where the worst thing in this world is nothing compared to what’s lurking just outside it No word on a hard copy (but, seeing as there's a signing, am guessing there must be one), but you "with it" Kindle youngsters can order the ebook from Am*z*n.

Hey cheers, Dem! The support is greatly appreciated! In answer to your "questions":
Yes there will be a hardback of DEAD SHIFT, but not a paperback, because it's a novella & the publisher thinks paperbacks of novellas look like 'crappy pamphlets'. Admittedly this one's 151 pages long which as we all know would do for a decent Hamlyn back in the day. I don't mind, really. My deal-breaker was that it had to come out as a physical book.
But no, this isn't the book I was talking about in the interview. That's a full length novel I finished a couple of weeks ago. Mind you, when I say full length that's still only 110 000 words. I mean, I don't want people to get bored or anything. All I will say at the moment is that if it gets published I think the House of Dem will find much of interest in its sleazy torture-filled pages. I've even managed to include a women's prison. In the best possible taste, of course.

Thanks for the info, y'worship. You might like to suggest to the publisher that he update the Horrific Tales site. Although it must seem like it sometimes, we ain't all on Faceache, and had it not been for a tweet from Mr. Ginger Nuts, I'd not have been aware of Dead Shift or the launch (any Vault/ Fanatic people going?).

Seeing as I live in the seaside town next to Mr P, and have also been working my way through a few volumes of the Black Book of Horror which includes some of Mr P in full-Birkin mode, I will certainly be doing my very best to drop in.

Prepare to be very entertained, Mr. Fanatic. Are you familiar with the shop? Glad you're sampling the Black Books. Bet you recognise a few names!

I ordered it.
Still, the novel may be interesting. 110000 words? What is this? About 350 pages? Not too shabby. And sleazy torture-filled pages sounds good for me.

Just finished reading it today and it's a cracker. I' sensing some HPL (duh!), some Doctor Who and a bit of Wheatley. And lashings of humour, artfully done.
I really enjoyed this. The 151 pages flew by so I'll think I'll read it again and savour it this time.
