Anybody read this? I bought this on a whim, as I haven't read a ghost story in Ages and like the College setting. Still, M. R. James as a hero, this is normally a thing I would avoid as I come to loathe this kind of book, one degree removed from the gutter of Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter or Eleanor Roosevelt, detective.

I listened to a podcast focusing on this book. I can't remember which but they were scathing in their condemnation. Apparently, it accuses James of paedophile tendencies.
Let me know what you think of the book. Do the accusations flow from the story or are they as scurrilous as I suspect them to be?
ETA: the podcast was Hypnobobs, 15th January edition.

I read it a while back, and didn't enjoy it much - it went straight to the charity shop after I'd finished. I can't remember exactly why I didn't like it, except a vague impression it was trying to appear more clever than it actually was.
