Any one no if there are any lists of books or Authers on slave books such as mandingo or drum.
I found a list in british horrow anthology hell slavery but can not find it in this forum.

Hi Harry,

Don't know if its just me, but I can no longer access our old board - it keeps timing out - so, unless someone can, and is willing to transfer the list across, we'll have to rebuild it from scratch. I know next to nowt about the genre but, with the help of certain back-issues of Paperback & related, should be able to come up with a working list if you give me a few days?

Coincidentally I've been asked to write an article on plantation pulp for a book that's being published in New Zealand later in the year - Justin has already come through with a couple of articles. I'm waiting for a box of books to arrive, so I'll post a few covers then.

Re Swamp Girl by Evans Wall - I've got a copy of this from Pyramid dated 1962. Pyramid reprinted it half a dozen times through the fifties and sixties, but it was first published in either 1929 or 1930 - so not sure that it really counts as a slavery novel.

Thanks Sev. Have still not made a start on revisiting the Paperback Fanatic back-catalogue but would it be fair to say that, as far as UK publishers are concerned, the slavers were largely (exclusively?) a New English Library phenomenon?

With absolutely no scientific basis or research, I'd say it was a case of NEL cornering a market created by Pan - they published Mandingo, Drum and all those Kyle Onstott and Lance Horner books which got pulses racing with a bit of miscengination (spelling??) in the sixties and had a lot of success - certainly they were everywhere in places like Woolies when I was a kid and later when I started second-hand shopping (yesterdays bestsellers being todays charity shop book shelf cloggers). Happy to be proved wrong if this is not so, though - who WOULD want to take blame for them?

I've just caught onto these plantation/slavery books. I haven't actually gotten my hands on one yet but I placed orders for Lance Horner's The Mahound(pan books uk cover) and Leslie Gladson's King's Slaves. It just sucks that there is little information on these books like reviews and plot summary for many are not coming up in Google searches. These books have been almost buried.

Can anyone recommend plantation erotica that focuses more on the white master/man having his way with the black girl slaves? Thats the raunchiest parts of these books.

Can't claim that this is a sub-genre that interests me overmuch personally, and I picked this up primarily for the Mike Codd cover even if it doesn't showcase him to best advantage. An overlooked artist, responsible for my favourite Modesty Blaise book jackets , and probably best known from a million and one J T Edson covers.
