Rather surprised that there doesn't appear to be a thread about this series, now available on region 2 DVD from Network. The series ran from 1966-1970, with 24 episodes in total. Sadly, only 8 of them are known to exist. Here are the stories adapted:
SERIES ONE:
- The Lost Stradivarius, by J. Meade Falkner
- The Body Snatcher, by Robert Louis Stevenson
- The Fall of the House of Usher, by Edgar Allan Poe (survives)
- The Open Door, by Mrs. Oliphant (survives)
- The Tractate Middoth, by MR James
- Lost Hearts, by MR James
- The Canterville Ghost, by Oscar Wilde
SERIES TWO:
- Room Thirteen, by MR James
- The Beckoning Shadow, by Mrs. JH Ridell (based on Old Mrs. Jones)
- The Flying Dragon, by J. Sheridan LeFanu (based on The Room in the Dragon Volant)
- Carmilla, by J. Sheridan LeFanu
- The Phantom Lover, by Vernon Lee
SERIES THREE:
- Casting the Runes, by MR James
- The Listener, by Algernon Blackwood
- A Place of One's Own, by Osbert Sitwell
- The Devil's Piper, by Sir Walter Scott (based on Wandering Willie's Tale)
- The Tell-tale Heart, by Edgar Allan Poe
- Feet Foremost, by LP Hartley
SERIES FOUR:
- Unlce Silas, by J Sheridan LeFanu
- Frankenstein
- Dracula
SERIES FIVE:
- The Suicide Club, by Robert Louis Stevenson
- Sweeney Todd
- The Curse of the Mummy, by Bram Stoker (based on The Jewel of the Seven Stars)
As I mentioned, only 8 episodes survive, the two from the first series, and those from series four and five. Series 1-3 had episodes of about 50 minutes each, series 4 and 5 75-80 minutes each. Only series five is in color.
I've seen the two series one episodes, and they're incredibly well made. Yet to see the others.
