Gernot Gricksch - Godzilla (Heyne, Munich, 1998) Blurb: GROSS, GRUN UND GRASSLICH: GODZILLA HALT DIE WELT IN ATEM! I don't have it, but I looked it up. This is one of those "fan" books, written by a fan - or a slumming journalist - for fans. Everything you want to know about Buffy or in this case Godzilla but never dared to ask. Basically a compilation of researched material. (Which before the Net and Wikis was hard work for us continent dwellers. You really had to invest a lot of time and money for this.) There used to be a market for this kind of tie-ins. Nowadays you don't seem to have that successful tv - or movie - which merits such projects. The only one I remember in the last time were some originals to cash in on the Twilight hype. Behind the scenes of Bella and Edward and so on. And I guess The Hobbit will produce a few. I guess the content has all Godzilla movies listed and the history of the series explained. At first I thought this was done in the wake of Emmerichs godawful Godzilla. Not that it matters, but are you sure this is 1989 and not 98? Then it would coincidence with Emmerich's remake. Griksch is a writer of a lot of serious YA, no genre novels, which has dabbled in movie and tv books.

Thank you andy, and you are spot on about the date, too. My German is non-existent, but the book is divided into three sections, Godzilla - The Mythos, Godzilla - The Films and um, yes, the third part seems to be a celebration of Roland Emerich's exhumation for the US market. Well, the book is very generous on stills and poster art, and it's not as if i ever bother with the words much anyway.

Thanks for the kind words, Dem.
You had a scan, which is nice. I just found one at Amazon, which are tiny. And I didn't want to put it through Photobucket. Maybe it is my connection, but I find Photobucket increasingly annoying to work with. The page keeps crashing, especially if you edit pics, and the videogames ads could transform me into the Hulk on some days. Ah, well, a gift horse and all that, still ...

It's a slightly different problem this end. P**t*b*ck*t sometimes crashes when i send individual files but there's never been a problem if i use the bulk upload option. The increasingly invasive propaganda for miracle wrinkle creams are a pain, but on the plus side, PB don't seem to be as censorious as they once where. Nobody's suggesting they should host porn, but I can remember when we had the innocuous Vampirella 1: Bloodstalk cover removed as an outrage to public decency. Above all, they're still reliable. Seem to have spent most of the year replacing literally hundreds of scans hosted by the defunct ripway and imagecave, and i'm still finding more.
