oh, you have my respect and devotion, sean! i remember seeing this back in the eighties and loving it, but buggered if i could remember what it was called! describing it to people for years just got me funny looks (well, i get them anyway). so it's great to get a look again.

Just noticed this thread by Sean. Like PH, I remember seeing this one as a supporting bill in the local flicks. After just a few minutes of part 4 I remembered how scary this was. That sense that this was happening for no particular reason, or if it was no one was going to bother telling you... I also found the film of Susan Hill's The woman in Black. Possibly not the scariest ever - but the book was. Watch The Woman in Black (the bed horror)

We went to watch a theatre production of this in London several years ago and were stunningly impressed. Minimal cast (two really) and minimalist sets (not usually my thing), combined with some excellent acting and an amazingly well-written script and story to make this a production that has stayed clear in my mind ever since.
I would recommend anyone who hasn't seen this to give it a try, even if you are not normally all that keen on stage plays. This could certainly change your perspective.

It was at Drury Lane, Des. It was about four or five years ago, perhaps a little bit longer. That same week we went to a performance of The Witches of Eastwick with Ian McShane. It was in its first few weeks. An amazing production too, though it cost us an awful lot more than watching The Woman in Black.
