I downloaded a bookfile from the Tartarus Press website: Mark Samuels' White Hands and other Tales. However, I can't seem to open it on my Kindle Fire. It's a MOBI file which is supposedly compatible with my reader, but nothing I do seems to work. If anyone has any suggestion or answers for me, I would really appreciate it.

Have you tried to send it through Amazon´s convert-program where they convert word files and pdfs for the Kindle?

Have you tried to send it through Amazon´s convert-program where they convert word files and pdfs for the Kindle? I talked to Mr. Russel via email from Tartarus Press and he said it was his impression that MOBI files were amazon specific, which is what I thought too. So I don't understand what the problem is really. But, I will look into that, Andy on Amazon. Thanks for the tip.

How insane is that? And if the MOBI file has some sort of Digital Rights Management or DRM then it can't be read by Kindle anyway. I am not happy with Amazon right now. They're suppose to be the techno-giants; they can't accomodate this MOBI file from Tartarus Press? Ugh!

And that little show of techno-twattery, in a nutshell, is why books will always win out. If they are pricey, but I want them badly enough, I will simply save up for them. Wow, how radical!

I agree with you whole-heartedly, Johnny! I've been a life-long book buyer and reader, someone who haunted used bookstores looking for the rare volume, and purchased from small presses (Scream Press was my first, many years ago.) I resisted ebook technology for a long time being one of those people who likes the feel of a real book. But I'm not able to get out as much as I used to and medical expenses have eaten up most of my extra funds. But I still do buy real books, just not as many. If it's an author I've never read, I like the option of buying a less expensive version. By the way, I finally did manage to open The White Hands file. Mr. Russell was very patient with me and I do appreciate that.

I was up until 2:30 am downloading and converting! Yes, you can teach an Old Bat new tricks!
