Has anyone seen, or does anyone remember, this film? I just mentioned it at Groovy Age of Horror, thinking it was a 'seventies movie. It was a bit older than I thought, 1968 - and directed by Mario Bava! Starring John Pilip Law and with music by Ennio Morricone. Based on a long-running Italian comic strip. I remember it was enormous fun when I saw it in '68. I'm sure it's been on telly sometime in the past... years. Analogue, terrestrial TV. Probably the best bit is Diabolik blowing up the tax offices. Somehow the creaky dialogue and model car chases just added to the fun. Suddenly I have this weird craving to see it again! Here's the plot from this site: Danger Diabolik!"It is the story of a skilled thief (played by John Phillip Law) living out of a ritzy hideout who steals incredible riches from the Italian government — including $10 million in cash, a highly prized set of emeralds, and an enormous gold ingot. Eva Kant was played by Marisa Mell, while Ginko was Michel Piccoli. A Dino De Laurentiis production (producer of Barbarella, which also featured Law), it had a notable musical score by Ennio Morricone. "While fairly faithful to the original, having Diabolik and Eva drive their black and white Jaguars, etc, the movie portrayed Eva more like a scantily-clad damsel in distress than is shown in the original stories. A documentary included with the DVD release praises Mario Bava for creating the most faithful comic book adaptation of the 20th century."
