The 'Hospice' (one of robert aickman's novels) www.imdb.com/title/tt0353539/was one of the 'Night Voices' Series filmed in 1987 by htv-west with Jack Shepherd. I was one of the (small part) actors in that film with Jack Shepherd and wondered if anyone still had a copy of it that I could see? I'd be more than happy to supply a blank DVD/ CD / VHS tape and pay for return postage if possible. I met the director Dominique Othenin-Girard before filming and Jack Shepherd in the make-up room prior to our scene. It was a very rememberable experience, and I never got to see the completed film and would love to see it, I do hope you can help me,

Many thanks for the reply and details. I have already contacted them and am awaiting a reply - I just wondered if anyone else might have got hold of a copy of this. BTW do you remember if my scene was still in the film? I was the punk youth with long blond hair who Maybury (Jack Shepherd) had to ask directions from after knocking me off my bike......

Hi qconnect - I was another of those lucky enough to see The Hospice at the Halifax Ghost Story Festival, and what a wonderful experience it was! I'd never seen it before, but I was absolutely blown away by it. My memory isn't what it was, but - as a long-standing Jack Shepherd fan (wasn't he just wonderful in Wycliffe too? ) - I can recall quite a bit of this film. I may be wrong, but I have a nasty feeling that your scene might have been cut out - at least from the version which was shown in Halifax. There did, to me, seem to be something missing - between his character getting out of the car, getting bitten by that hairy thing, and somehow finding his way to the house. I remember thinking to myself that there was a continuity error as he wouldn't have known which way to go! But, like I say, I could be wrong. And it may be that what we saw in Halifax was a cut-down version anyway. It did have a break in the middle for the adverts, and some bits missing there for certain. I remember the organiser saying it was taken straight from TV so the chances of some bits being missing are, I think, quite strong. I really wish I could get hold of a copy too. I'd love to see the rest of the Night Voices series now too. Isn't Dee, the Halifax event organiser, a member of this forum too? I think her surname (and username) is something like Grijek? She may well be able to help you with your query - and I really hope she can help get these films released to DVD. I'd be buying a copy, for sure! (by the way, hello to everyone who remembers me from here from way back - especially Dem. And thanks to David for alerting me to this thread and tempting me back again!)

Thanks, Craig - same to you! I've seen you around the BFS forum sometimes. You know I'm the online news editor there now? (so if you have any book news, etc, you'd like putting on the BFS site, you know who to contact ). Back to The Hospice film ... thinking about it some more since I posted, I think I can see that scene in my head now, with Jack Shepherd bumping in to someone on a bike - but it may simply be that I'm seeing it in my head because it should be there, not because it actually was there in the film. I'll ask around some other places, people who I know were at Halifax too, and see if someone else (with a better memory than mine! : can remember better.

There was a thread on this series a while back. As it is, I have a copy of this episode on DVD, which I'll be happy to copy for anyone who wants one.
I haven't had a chance to check if the scene is there or not, I'm afraid. The series was shown in the 90s on one of the Carlton cable channels, as I recall, and the copy I have was taken from a VHS tape of that broadcast. The disc also has part (though not all) of another 'Night Voices' episode - a version of 'The Hands of Orlac'. This seems to have been badly dubbed from French, and from what little I've seen of it, I don't think I'm missing much by not having the complete episode.
Anyone who wants a copy, just PM me with your details and I'll pop it in the post (no need for a blank DVD or to pay for postage).

I'm new here, and fairly new to Aickman, but can't get enough.
I'm currently reading a biography of Aickman (Kindle edition is under £3) which is so far a very interesting read.
The Lurker - I'd also love a copy of your DVD of "The Hospice". I've searched everywhere, this is one of my favourite Aickman stories so far.
Can I PM you my address?
best wishes, Paul

Many thanks The Lurker In The Shadows - I've PM'ed you my details! Just to let you know after doing the filming, makeup, learning lines, a stunt on a bike and travel, AND waiting 25 years to see it, I can inform you that the director cut my scene!! I was shocked it wasn;t there. Jack Shepherd went straight from the statue to the hospice, but we filmed him knocking me off my bike before asking me directions to a place to stay. Oh well, my film career lies in ruins :-( Read more: vaultofevil.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=pmview&view=2&id=6761#ixzz1jukSEJOc

Know the feeling. i was asked to sing Chris Rea's Road to Hell for 'Prime Suspect' no 3 I think - spent three days learning the song to play the part of a busker. They filmed me under a railway arch in Salford to get the voice just right - didn't use it and I never played the song again

Sorry to hear that, qconnect, but I'm glad you finally managed to get hold of a copy.
Craig - if you had appeared in Prime Suspect 3 I'd be tracking down a copy now!

Sorry to hear that, qconnect, but I'm glad you finally managed to get hold of a copy. Craig - if you had appeared in Prime Suspect 3 I'd be tracking down a copy now! I was in the first three as an extra John. You'll be proud to hear that in one scene I was a retreating back and a corpse being wheeled through the same corridor. Smacks somehow of the great vault tradition

Jack Shepherd went straight from the statue to the hospice, Yep, that's what I thought was in the film - but with my failing memory I just couldn't be sure. Sorry they didn't put your bit in there Q - it really should have been in order to make that bit make sense. And sorry I didn't get back to you earlier about this either. But Lurker has sorted you out now I see. Lurks - I've just PMed you about a copy of that film!
