Another British ghost story in the "classic" style (I see hints of both MRJ and Hodgson's Carnacki in the trailer), and due for release Nov 11th - The Awakening. Stephen Volk is credited as co-writer, and it looks like a good cast (Dominic West again!). www.imdb.com/title/tt1687901/

Fairly lengthy discussion of this film (released today) on BBC site - www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-15624596I also, entirely fortuitously, caught the Mark Kermode interview on that BBC arts show - couldn't figure out why this particular film was getting so much attention until I saw that it's a "StudioCanal/BBC production". Still, it looks pretty good - and it's stolen a march on The Woman In Black, which isn't due out until next year.

Just back from seeing this. First time I've gone to a matinee for a long, long time - very strange, with just me and about 4 others in the cinema.
I enjoyed the film a lot, though I can see it splitting opinions. It's definitely an old-fashioned "ghost story" rather than a "horror story", and as such it moves along at a fairly slow pace, but there are some nice scares along the way. The story is a bit more complicated than I was expecting - and maybe it's just a little over-complicated - but the acting is very good, as is the cinematography. I don't want to say much else because I don't want to give anything away - just that I will probably want to see it again after I've thought about it a bit more (and there is quite a lot to think about).
