Dead Wood Recordings are a Midlands-based 'DIY' record label specialising in Experimental/Industrial/Electronic/Noise. In other words, if a spot of "Entertainment Through Pain" is your idea of listening pleasure, you may well want to investigate a few of their latest releases. GODDAM OX & HADDONFIELD, ILLINOIS Split 12" vinyl [ DWR001 ]"...Where Goddam Ox's side could be likened to a slow untimely death, Haddonfield, Illinois come armed with a soundtrack perfect for an undead uprising, inspired by the likes of Goblin, John Carpenter and Throbbing Gristle... Four tracks of industrial-tinged horrorscapes which suggest that Haddonfield, Illinois would be more than at home scoring for Fulci, Deodato or Hooper." Hailed as "the sound of mass murder" and taking their name from the fictional setting for the Halloween films, Haddonfield, Illinois are - as the above review suggests - the aural equivalent of an Italian zombie film or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Only scarier. From '20 jazz funk greats' blogspot;
"...they bleed something black and horrible that flows from the speakers, dare looking into it and a reflection of ghastly doom, excruciating pain and the ultimately un-namable will stare back at you... If Zombi destroyed the atmosphere to summon that cold nothingness lying beyond the stars, then Haddonfield, Illinois are clawing through mouldy ground to awake what lies beneath."Enjoy 'La Rebelion De Las Muertos' ("When the earth spits out the dead, they will come to suck the blood of the living!") and other audial nightmares on their MySpace music profile. www.myspace.com/haddonfieldillinois (scroll down for MP3 player) www.myspace.com/goddamoxAnd if, having had your first taste of blood, you hunger for more... DWR have further offerings likely to satiate even the most jaded of palates. IRON FIST OF THE SUN The Power Of September cd-r [ DWR002 ](comes with a bonus cd-r featuring a 30+min live recording and bonus track) "Hypnotically cosmic, druggy, hate-fueled misanthropy; The Power Of September deals with genuine loss, jealousy, hatred and vengeance. Fusing intense blasts of harsh electronics with occasional scathing bursts of vocals... allowing a few seconds to breathe from time to time before the next onslaught of piercing distortion, feedback and vitriolic venom." www.myspace.com/ironfistofthesunSTUNTCOCK & BBBLOOD Distorted Grand Quim Opus Split cd-r [ DWR003 ]"scuzzy harsh noise, obscene and filthy... It sounds dirty and it feels good." www.myspace.com/stuntcocknoisewww.myspace.com/bbbloodComes in slimline dvd case featuring suitably titillating artwork. All releases are hand-numbered limited editions, and all are available now from www.deadwoodrecordings.co.uk(From today until March 31st 2008, DWR will be running an online offer on the first three label releases. For £12.50 inc. p&p, you'll get a copy of DWR001, DWR002 and DWR003, saving a few quid over buying them separately.) And as I know Rich of Dead Wood Recordings would say to anyone who's read this far; "Many Thanks!"

Could they perhaps be likened to Nurse With Wound, or even the hallowed SPK?

Er, have I stumbled upon the wrong board, or have you all started talking in a foreign language? I haven't a clue what you lot are talking about now. Mind you, somebody's mentioned Jethro Tull a couple of times on another thread - think I'd better go to that thread instead ...

Could they perhaps be likened to Nurse With Wound, or even the hallowed SPK? Well, we're definitely in that general area, yeah. Although with most of the artists currently on Dead Wood Recordings, there's not so much in the way of tape editing, loops and percussion - more of a leaning towards Whitehouse power-electronics and Japanese Noise type stuff (if you're familiar with Merzbow, you'll be pretty well prepared for much of what's on offer here). I focused mainly on Haddonfield, Illinois in the above post because of their horror connection (Vault is a horror board after all). They list Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire among their influences but even though, as I mentioned, they've been described as "the sound of mass murder", they're actually one of the more accessible acts on the label due to their interest in the Goblin/Fulci/Argento soundtrack side of things. Goddam Ox are different again, they use guitars and have more of a 'doom' feel - even citing Black Sabbath as a major inspiration. Generally if you think of live TG in 'Wall of Sound' mode, you'll have the idea. I haven't a clue what you lot are talking about now. Mind you, somebody's mentioned Jethro Tull a couple of times on another thread... Never let it be said that Vault of Evil isn't a 'broad church', Caroline - there can't be many other places on the internet where you can be talking about Iceland one minute and Victorian porn the next (we even talk about British horror anthologies sometimes!).

is that betty page on the cover of STUNTCOCK & BBBLOOD?
i saw throbbing gristle play at some Spanish anarchist centre in neasden (!) once. the back-projected films were interesting; they even had one of 'em playing a version of 'zyklon b. zombie' that had little in common with the original, but it was far more entertaining chancing upon them at a clock dva/ they must be Russians gig at the ica during genesis's polish army uniform phase. presumably, they'd come along to check out clock dva. they were hanging around in the canteen and my TG fantasies were shattered when mr. porridge marched into the hall .... drinking a cup of soup. the other abiding memory - far better - is of cosey dancing (very well) to the Russians' big assault on the charts, 'Nagasaki's children' about three paces from where i stood watching in horrified awe that TMBR had actually learned how to play a bit. after this opening number, the band split up onstage, lead singer Russ Russian pulled on a ludicrous wig, two or three new mutants lurched on to replace the couple who'd trooped off and they were off on the next phase of their career.
none of which has much bearing on the dead wood artistes, but like troo, i'll be attempting to give 'em a listen (accursed dial-up!) before i set out tomorrow night to get me in the right mood.

Even accursed dial-up would be better than what AOL did to me last friday. I am currently waiting for the ISP change to go through. In the meantime, no reliable internets from home

I have to confess that I first misread the title of this thread as 'Industrial-tinged HORRORSCOPES' and was just about to ask what they had in store for Taurus this week.

I have to confess that I first misread the title of this thread as 'Industrial-tinged HORRORSCOPES' and was just about to ask what they had in store for Taurus this week. Your Industrial-tinged Horrorscope Taurus With Scorpio rising, your thoughts will probably be turning towards death factories and pornography this morning. Don't be put out if colleagues at work start flirting with Fascist imagery. You may be feeling more abrasive and confrontational than usual this week. This is all part of the process. Friday will be a good day for looping tape and hitting found objects with a big mallet. Lucky body part: rectum
